Forked from D3 Course Code Along - Nested Elements

Five fruits in a bowl animate through a sequence of state changes, transitioning between apples and a lemon as fruits are removed and replaced. The visualization demonstrates nested SVG elements with animated transitions using D3 v5's data join, keyed by unique IDs for object constancy. Circles and text labels update smoothly via `transition().duration(1000)`, while the bowl shape remains static. Population data files are included but unused in the displayed fruit interaction.

D3 Course Code Along - Nested Elements

Five fruit shapes are rendered as nested SVG groups, each containing a colored circle and text label. The visualization demonstrates D3's data join pattern with enter, update, and exit selections to animate changes in the fruit array. Using d3.select and scaleOrdinal from D3 v5, circles transition between red apples and yellow lemons based on data modifications triggered by setTimeout callbacks. The code imports fruitBowl from a module and manages object constancy through randomized id properties.

Nested elements with transitions

A dynamic fruit bowl updates through sequential data changes, showing apples and lemons as colored circles with labels inside a brown rectangular container. Using D3 v5 with SVG rendering, the example demonstrates nested elements where each fruit group contains a circle and text element. The visualization uses a scaleOrdinal for color and radius mapping, while data joins with enter/merge/exit patterns handle transitions when fruits are removed or change type.

D3 Course Code Along - Bowl of fruit: Hover to select

A bowl of fruit renders as a row of red apples and yellow lemons in an SVG graphic. Hovering over a fruit highlights it with a blue outline, demonstrating interactive selection. The visualization uses D3 v5 with data joins and transitions to animate fruits entering, exiting, and changing type. The code applies `scaleOrdinal` for color mapping and `transition` with `attr` tweening, driven by random IDs for object constancy. Population trend data from CSV files accompanies the fruit demo, though the bowl itself uses generated fruit objects.

Nested Elements with transition

A sequence of fruit data animates a brown SVG bowl containing apples and lemons. The visualization uses d3 selections and merge operations to transition nested elements: circles and text labels appear, reposition, or disappear as the data array changes over time. The code applies d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mappings, and d3.select for SVG element manipulation, with explicit exit and enter selections driving the animated state changes.

Bowl of Fruit: Nested Elements

Five fruit circles appear in a row, then an animation sequence removes, re-types, and removes fruits to show nested data joins. Using D3 v5, the code binds an array of fruit objects to SVG `<g>` groups, appending circles and text labels inside each. The `fruitBowl` function separates enter and update selections, merging them before applying `transition().duration(1000)` to animate circle radii via a color and radius scale. The `index.js` script schedules state changes with `setTimeout` and re-renders, while `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to colors and sizes.

Bowl of Fruit - Animated Transitions

This example demonstrates animated transitions for a data-bound bowl of fruit, showing how elements enter, exit, and update smoothly. It uses D3 v5’s data join with key functions, `transition().duration()`, and ordinal scales for color and radius. The SVG circles represent apples and lemons, with apples being eaten and replaced over time. The code imports `scaleOrdinal` from D3 and executes timed state changes via `setTimeout` to trigger render updates.

Bowl of fruits- Animated Transition

A bowl of fruits demonstrates animated transitions between data-bound SVG circles, using D3 v5 data joins and enter/update/exit patterns. Fruits (apples and lemons) are sized and colored with ordinal scales, and each state change—removing, replacing, or filtering fruit—triggers a one-second `transition` on circle radii and positions. The code imports `scaleOrdinal` and `select` from D3, and explicitly uses `.data()` with key functions, `merge()`, and `transition().duration()` to smooth updates. Population data appears in the CSV but is not used by the visualization, which relies solely on generated fruit objects.

Bowl of Fruit: Nested Elements with Transitions

Five apples enter a bowl as circles with a smooth transition, then shrink and disappear as the fruit is eaten, while one apple turns into a lemon and changes color and size. The d3.v5 code uses a data join with enter, update, and exit selections, nesting circles and text inside groups. Transitions animate radius changes, and exit transitions shrink circles before removal, with scaleOrdinal mapping fruit types to colors and radii.
