Sol LeVitt

Sol LeWitt

This example generates a minimalist SVG composition inspired by Sol LeWitt, displaying 100 vertical rectangles evenly spaced across a 960-by-500-pixel canvas. Each rectangle maintains a fixed width of 10 pixels and spans the full height of the canvas, creating a rhythmic, striped pattern. The visualization is built programmatically using raw JavaScript and the SVG API, specifically creating SVG elements via `document.createElementNS` and appending them to the document. No external libraries are used; the rendering relies entirely on native browser support for SVG and scripting.

Sol Lewit

This example generates a grid of colored squares that reorganize into a circular pattern, inspired by the geometric art of Sol LeWitt. Using raw SVG elements created via the DOM API, it renders 960 by 500 pixels of animated transformations. The code relies on JavaScript to manipulate square positions and colors in a looping sequence, though no external libraries like D3 are imported. The result is a minimalist, abstract visualization that explores repetition and systematic variation.

Sol Lewitt Reproduction SVG

This example reproduces a Sol LeWitt-style geometric drawing using SVG, showing a grid of horizontal and vertical stripes that are masked to reveal a central circle. The visualization dynamically fills the browser window by setting the SVG width and height to the viewport dimensions. It constructs two SVG masks with white and black circles and rectangles, then renders 100 horizontal and 100 vertical stripe rectangles, each referencing a mask to clip the pattern. The code uses the DOM API `document.createElementNS` to build SVG elements programmatically with JavaScript.

Sol Lewitt SVG Artwork

This example renders geometric SVG artwork inspired by Sol LeWitt, using a React framework with hard-coded SVG elements. The visualization displays a series of colorful, grid-based compositions with varying line patterns, shapes, and color blocks arranged across a 960x500 canvas. The code defines these patterns directly in the SVG markup, creating a static, non-interactive piece that emphasizes the artist's systematic approach to form and color. The rendering relies entirely on native SVG capabilities within the React component structure.

Sol LeWitt

This example draws a single red square onto an SVG canvas, echoing the minimalist geometric style of Sol LeWitt. The code creates SVG elements using the native `document.createElementNS` API for SVG, adds a `rect` with fixed width and height attributes, and appends it to the page. It demonstrates fundamental SVG rendering with vanilla JavaScript, setting the stage for further generative art.

Sol LeWitt in vanilla js

Sol LeWitt’s geometric wall drawing is recreated as an abstract composition of green rectangles and small black tick marks on a white field. The page renders entirely through static SVG elements, with no JavaScript logic driving the layout. The artwork uses hard-coded coordinates and fills to mimic the artist’s systematic, rule-based style, presenting a faithful, non-interactive data-visualization homage in a bare HTML document.

Sol LeWitt Reproduction

This example reproduces a Sol LeWitt drawing by assembling a grid of horizontal and vertical stripes that intersect to form a circular void at the center. The piece renders 100 horizontal rectangles masked by a black circle, while a second set of 100 vertical rectangles uses an inverted mask with a white circle, creating a complementary pattern of visible lines. Built with the HTML DOM and SVG APIs, the visualization constructs elements directly via JavaScript, using `createElementNS`, `setAttribute`, and SVG mask definitions to achieve the geometric composition. The result is a computational homage to LeWitt's conceptual art, where simple algorithmic rules generate complex visual interplay.

Sol LeWitt

This visualization reproduces Sol LeWitt’s geometric style using overlapping horizontal and vertical stripe patterns. It shows a large circular mask that reveals alternating bands of stripes against a contrasting background. The code uses raw SVG elements via `document.createElementNS` to construct rectangles, masks, and circles. A single white circle and black circle are combined with two masks to clip the stripe layers, creating an interplay of positive and negative space. The rendering relies on SVG’s mask attribute and fills the full viewport with 100 stripes in each direction.
