This example draws a single red square onto an SVG canvas, echoing the minimalist geometric style of Sol LeWitt. The code creates SVG elements using the native `document.createElementNS` API for SVG, adds a `rect` with fixed width and height attributes, and appends it to the page. It demonstrates fundamental SVG rendering with vanilla JavaScript, setting the stage for further generative art.

Sol LeWitt reproduction

This example reproduces a Sol LeWitt drawing using an SVG canvas. It shows a single black square rectangle positioned at the top-left corner of a 960×500 pixel viewport. The code creates the SVG and rectangle elements dynamically using the DOM API `document.createElementNS` with the SVG namespace, then appends them to the page body. The rectangle’s dimensions are set via `setAttribute`, though its fill color is commented out, leaving it with the default black.

Sol Lewitt Reproduction

This example reproduces a Sol LeWitt wall drawing as a single static SVG rectangle, using a plain SVG element with a width and height set to 960 by 500 pixels. The code manually creates the SVG and a 100-by-100 rect child via the Document Object Model’s `createElementNS` method, relying on raw JavaScript rather than a charting library. It demonstrates basic SVG rendering with a fixed canvas, though the script appends the rect to the SVG before the document’s existing SVG is used, resulting in a minimal structural output. The work shows how geometric abstraction can be encoded directly through SVG API calls.

Sol LeWitt in Vanilla JS

This example renders a generative art piece inspired by Sol LeWitt using vanilla JavaScript and SVG. It creates a full-screen SVG canvas and populates it with a series of vertical rectangles, each 10 pixels wide, spaced 20 pixels apart across the entire window width. The code uses `document.createElementNS` and `setAttribute` to construct SVG elements dynamically, looping to cover the viewport’s width. The result is a minimal, grid-based composition that directly translates the artist’s geometric aesthetic into a browser-based visualization.

Sol Lewitt

This example renders a blank SVG canvas with a fixed 960x960 pixel dimension using plain JavaScript and the SVG DOM API. It creates a new SVG element via `document.createElement('svg')`, sets its width and height attributes, and appends it to the document body. The code demonstrates basic DOM manipulation and SVG setup within a React framework context, though no visual output or data binding is present beyond the empty canvas.

Sol LeWitt

This example renders a generative SVG artwork inspired by Sol LeWitt. It uses raw JavaScript to create an SVG element sized to the browser window, then draws 100 vertical rectangles, each 10 pixels wide and spaced 20 pixels apart, spanning the full height of the canvas. A circular mask, defined in SVG and applied via the `mask` attribute, clips these rectangles, revealing a bold, striped disk centered on the screen. The piece demonstrates programmatic shape creation and SVG masking without any external libraries.

Sol LeVitt

A red circle with horizontal white stripes and vertical white stripes creates a grid-like pattern, demonstrating a minimalist geometric composition. The artwork uses inline SVG elements within an HTML page, including a circle filled with red and rectangles filled with white to form the stripes. The SVG canvas is fixed at 400 by 400 pixels, with the circle positioned accordingly. This example showcases how basic SVG shapes can be combined to recreate the visual style of Sol LeWitt's wall drawings, using only HTML and CSS with no JavaScript.

SOL LEWITT REPRODUCTION

This example reproduces a Sol LeWitt-style drawing using only JavaScript and SVG, rendering a series of vertical black rectangles across a white canvas. The code creates a full-window SVG element and programmatically appends 100 narrow rectangles, each spaced 20 pixels apart with a width of 10 pixels, using the `createElementNS` API from the SVG specification. The rectangles stretch the full height of the viewport, producing a minimalist grid-like pattern that echoes LeWitt's geometric wall drawings. The piece demonstrates generative art through direct DOM manipulation without any external libraries.

SVG Sol LeWitt

This example renders a grid of thin vertical rectangles across the full viewport using raw SVG elements. It creates 48 rectangles via `document.createElementNS` for the SVG namespace, positioning each at 20-pixel intervals with a fixed width of 10. The rectangles span the entire window height, producing a minimalist, repetitive pattern reminiscent of Sol LeWitt’s wall drawings. The code sets the SVG’s dimensions to `window.innerWidth` and `window.innerHeight`, and dynamically appends the SVG to the document body. No external libraries are used; only native JavaScript and SVG APIs.
