This chord diagram visualizes the relationships between building material categories and their occupants or environmental impacts, using a circular matrix layout. The code employs D3 v5’s `d3.chord`, `d3.arc`, and `d3.ribbon` APIs to render SVG paths, with color encoding distinguishing occupants, environment, and other material groups. Labels for each category appear as rotated tick marks, while ribbons show weighted connections between entities. The data is hardcoded as a JavaScript object, and the visualization uses a static SVG canvas with a custom color scale.
