Bar Chart

This bar chart displays the populations of the ten most populous countries in 2020, drawn from the World Population Prospects dataset. Each country is listed on the vertical axis, with horizontal bars extending to represent population size in millions. The visualization uses D3 v6 APIs including `scaleLinear`, `scaleBand`, `axisLeft`, and `axisBottom` to map data to an SVG canvas. The chart’s layout applies margins to position the axes, and the bars are rendered as rectangles with a steelblue fill.

stacked bar char

This example uses a stacked bar chart to visualize the number of Kickstarter campaigns across six price ranges, from under $1,000 to over $1 million, for each project category. The visualization is interactive, allowing users to toggle between stacked and grouped bar layouts via an HTML radio button, with smooth animated transitions between the two states. It is built with D3.js version 6.7.0, using `d3.csv` for data loading, `d3.layout.stack` for the stacking logic, `d3.scale.ordinal` and `d3.scale.linear` for axes, and `transition.attr` for the animated changes. The SVG rendering displays color-coded layers with a legend, rotated x-axis labels, and a tooltip on mouseover.

Fork of Religions of Largest 20 Countries

This stacked bar chart visualizes the estimated 2010 religious composition of the world’s 20 most populous countries, using data from the Pew Research Center’s Global Religious Landscape. Each bar is divided into colored segments representing religions, with population values on the x-axis and countries on the y-axis. Hovering over a bar reveals a tooltip via d3-tip, while hovering over the color legend highlights only the bars for that religion, dimming others through an overlay. The visualization uses D3’s stack layout, ordinal scales, SVG rendering, and animation for interactive transitions.

Tweaking Axes

This horizontal bar chart displays the populations of the top ten most populous countries, using 2020 estimates from the World Population Prospects. The chart renders as an SVG and employs D3 v6 scales, including `scaleLinear` and `scaleBand`, along with `axisLeft` and `axisBottom` for tick marks. The y-axis removes its domain line for a cleaner look, while the x-axis labels abbreviate large numbers using the `format` function, replacing 'G' with 'B' for billions.

Smile

A smiling face drawn with SVG shapes animates its eyebrows in a playful blinking motion. The yellow circle face, black eyes, and curved mouth are constructed using D3's `arc` and basic SVG circle elements. Eyebrow movement is achieved through chained `transition().duration(200)` calls that shift the path's transform attribute up and down. The visualization uses D3 v6 and renders entirely in SVG with no external data source.
