A monochrome animated letterform materializes on a black canvas as a dense field of tiny triangles, all converging and diverging along diagonal paths. The composition splits into two mirrored halves, with particles crossing the center line to form a tall, angular "I" shape before dispersing. Built with D3.js and rendered on a 2D canvas, the animation uses a custom `d3.timer` loop and the Canvas API’s `globalCompositeOperation` for additive blending, while triangle positions are updated via simple velocity and boundary-reflection logic. The data consists of randomly generated triangle coordinates, with colors cycling between cyan and magenta based on movement direction.

Trembling triangle #2

An animated triangle on a canvas trembles and morphs as it fills with shifting, warm-colored bands. The rendering uses a D3 v4 timer loop to drive the shape’s jitter, with the triangle’s edges recursively subdivided to create fractal depth. Each frame, the canvas is cleared, and ten offset triangle paths are drawn in sequence with semi-transparent fills, producing a shimmering, layered effect. The code employs `d3.randomNormal`, `d3.scaleLinear`, `d3.interpolateWarm`, and the Canvas 2D API to generate the motion and color.

Spiral Triangle II

Three rotating triangles made of small squares converge in the center, with each square cycling through a smooth cubehelix color palette. The animation uses multiple `d3.timer` callbacks to update square positions and rotations, while `d3.scale.cubehelix` maps time-based domain values to color. Sixty squares per triangle move horizontally and spin at a constant angular speed, clipped to two regions that divide the SVG canvas. The code relies on D3 v3 selection methods and SVG transforms to coordinate the layered motion.

Spiral Triangle III

A grid of 71 small cross-shaped symbols rotates in a spiral pattern around a triangle, with colors shifting through a cubehelix scale. The animation is clipped into upper and lower regions of the SVG canvas, and each symbol moves outward while rotating at a constant angular speed. The code uses D3 v3's `d3.timer` for animation, `d3.svg.symbol` for cross paths, and a custom `d3.scale.cubehelix` with three HSL stops to interpolate fill colors over time.

Animated Letters

This animated visualization demonstrates D3’s selection join pattern by showing random letters entering, updating, and exiting a view. Green letters appear from the top, black letters shift horizontally to their new positions, and brown letters drift downward before disappearing. The example uses `d3.select`, `selectAll`, `join`, and `transition` with a 750-millisecond duration, driven by `setInterval` updates every second. It also includes a custom `randomLetters` function that shuffles and sorts the alphabet, highlighting how transitions handle dynamic data with hot-reload-friendly interval management.

A grid of small circles and hexagon-like arrangements of rounded orange rectangles animates in a staggered transition. The visualization generates a field of triangular tile motifs, where each tile contains three small circles and three rounded rectangles positioned at their edges. Initially, the rectangles and circles sit at the tile centers; after a delay, they rotate outward to the triangle’s midpoints. Using D3.js with SVG transitions, the code applies `translate` and `rotate` transforms to reposition elements, driven by trigonometric calculations for hexagon geometry. The rendering uses D3 selections and transitions, with data-bound groups and nested arrays to handle multiple coordinates.

Isometric III

An animated field of white, wireframe cubes rotates and rises in an isometric grid. Each cube spins on its vertical axis, with the rotation amount and vertical position varying by its distance from the center, creating a wave-like motion across the diamond-shaped pattern. Built with D3’s `d3-timer` and `d3-ease` modules, it uses a custom `isometric` library to project 3D coordinates onto a 2D Canvas context, drawing paths with `moveTo` and `lineTo`. The animation is driven by the timer’s elapsed time, and cube placement uses both Manhattan and Cartesian distance calculations.

Untitled

A vertical column of 50 circles animates across an SVG canvas, cycling horizontally in a loop. The circles are colored along a dark-to-light scale using `d3.scaleLinear` with HSL interpolation, creating subtle banding. D3 v4 selects the SVG, appends the circles, and chains `transition` calls with staggered `delay` and recursive `on("start", repeat)` to move each circle from left to right and back, demonstrating fundamental DOM manipulation and animation.

Spiral Triangle

A mesmerizing, topologically impossible animation shows a spiral of black-stroked white squares rotating and translating within two triangular clipping regions. The piece recreates a GIF by PATAKK, using an SVG scene with upper and lower clip paths. The code uses d3.v3’s `d3.selectAll`, `d3.range`, and `d3.timer` to drive square transforms, while each square’s position and rotation are computed from a normalized index and elapsed time.
