This is a minimal bar chart example built with D3.js v4, rendered as an SVG. It creates an empty SVG canvas with fixed dimensions of 960 by 500 pixels, appended directly to the body. The code does not include any data or bar-rendering logic; it only sets up the SVG container. The example serves as a starting point for building a bar chart, using D3’s selection and append methods to initialize the visualization structure.

Bar Chart v4

This example displays a minimal bar chart created with D3.js v4, rendering a single empty SVG container. The visualization demonstrates the foundational setup for a D3 project, using `d3.select` to append an SVG element with fixed width and height dimensions. The code initializes the drawing surface but does not bind or visualize any data, leaving the chart blank. The example relies on the D3 library loaded from the official CDN and follows a standard Blockbuilder.org template structure, with the SVG rendered directly in the browser. It serves as a starting point for understanding D3’s SVG manipulation capabilities without additional scales, axes, or data transformations.

Bar Chart

This example demonstrates a minimal bar chart implementation, showing how a static SVG canvas can be initialized and labeled. The visualization consists of a single text element positioned within an SVG container, serving as a placeholder rather than displaying actual data. The code uses D3.js v4 to select the body element, append an SVG with fixed dimensions of 960 by 500 pixels, and add a styled text label. The rendering approach relies on D3's selection and DOM manipulation methods, with the text element styled using monospace font and centered positioning. The data source is not specified, as the example focuses on basic SVG setup rather than data-driven visualization.

bar chart

This example displays an empty SVG canvas sized at 960 by 500 pixels. It uses D3 v3’s selection and append methods to create the SVG element inside the page body. The code sets up the basic structural foundation for a bar chart but does not yet include any data or visual marks. The rendering relies on D3’s SVG manipulation capabilities, with the styling applied through a fixed full-viewport body layout. The current state shows only the blank plotting area, leaving the chart’s data and bar geometry entirely unspecified.

Bar chart.js

This example displays a simple bar chart rendered in SVG, taking its dimensions from the svg element's attributes. The visualization shows a blank canvas with no data bars, as the code only initializes the chart container and imports the selection utility from D3. It uses `d3.select` to grab the SVG element and reads the `width` and `height` attributes, while loading D3 v6 from a CDN and applying a stylesheet that hides overflow. The chart appears as an empty, margin-less SVG area awaiting data.

Making a bar Chart with D3.js!

This example shows a blank SVG canvas with a fixed width and height, ready for drawing a bar chart. The code imports the `select` function from D3.js and uses it to grab the SVG element, then reads its dimensions via `attr`. The dataset and rendering logic are not yet implemented, leaving the visualization as an empty stage. It uses D3 v5 and renders through SVG, with a minimal stylesheet that removes body margins and hides overflow.

Simple Bar Chart

This example demonstrates a simple bar chart created as a static SVG visualization. The code sets up a responsive SVG container using a viewBox and `preserveAspectRatio`, with margins applied via padding. It uses D3 v5 to select the container and append the SVG element, though the chart itself is not yet drawn—only the SVG preparation and empty data sections are present. The rendering approach is SVG-based, with dimensions fixed at 960 by 500 pixels.

Making a Bar Chart - 071919

This example shows an empty SVG canvas with no data or visual elements rendered. The code sets up a basic D3 v5 bar chart scaffold by selecting the SVG element, reading its width and height attributes, and importing the `select` function from the d3 module. The accompanying stylesheet hides the page margin and overflow, while the script loads from a separate bundle, but no chart is actually drawn.

Making a bar chart

This example shows a blank SVG canvas prepared for building a bar chart, with the viewport dimensions explicitly read from the SVG element’s width and height attributes. The code uses d3’s `select` and `attr` methods to access the SVG and its dimensions, setting up the foundation for subsequent data binding and shape generation. The rendering approach is SVG-based, and the initial state includes a simple body style with zero margin and hidden overflow. The chart itself is not yet populated, focusing purely on the setup phase of the visualization.
