This interactive D3 v4 force-directed graph visualizes a network of nodes and links, with each node representing an entity and links colored by a categorical attribute (e.g., "Ba", "Gy"). The graph is rendered as an SVG with animated force simulation, and users can click "Update" to apply new data or "Reset" to restore the original layout. Nodes are colored using a categorical color scale, and hovering over a node displays a tooltip with its details. The visualization demonstrates dynamic data updates and filtering through user-controlled buttons.

Forcelayout v7

This interactive D3 v4 force-directed graph visualizes a network of 20 nodes and 23 links, where nodes represent entities with categorical attributes (T and Q) and links represent shared connections between them. The graph uses the force simulation to position nodes, with curved connection paths and colored links. A color scale maps node categories to the schemeCategory20 palette, and hovering over nodes reveals tooltips. Two buttons allow users to update the dataset with new node/link combinations or reset to the original configuration, demonstrating dynamic data binding and smooth transitions in the force layout. The visualization includes a legend to map colors to node types.

(d3v4) Force Layout w curved connections

This interactive D3 v4 force-directed graph visualizes relationships between nodes and links, with curved connections that dynamically adjust as the layout simulates physical forces. Users can filter the displayed network through dropdown menus, and the animation runs live in SVG. The example is built on a small dataset of interconnected nodes, with link curvature helping to reduce visual clutter when multiple connections share the same nodes.

Simple forcelayout update v1

This interactive force-directed graph visualizes connections between 20 nodes, each tagged with thematic labels (T) and qualitative attributes (Q). The visualization features checkboxes to filter nodes by label and a reset button, with tooltips displaying node details on hover. D3 v4's force simulation lays out nodes as circles colored by a categorical scale, while links are drawn as colored paths representing shared attributes. The example demonstrates dynamic graph updates using the general update pattern, adding and removing nodes and links at timed intervals while maintaining smooth animated transitions.

Modifying a Force Layout with buttons

Three buttons step through a force-directed graph animation, adding and removing nodes and links to show how a D3 v4 force layout handles dynamic data. The example demonstrates smooth enter and exit transitions for both circles and lines, with `d3.forceSimulation` driving the physics. A key technique is `transition.attrTween`, which keeps exiting links visually connected to moving nodes during removal, even after the links leave the `link` selection. The reset button restores the initial three-node state.

Checkbox Interactive forcelayout

This interactive force-directed graph displays 20 nodes connected by links that share common categorical labels (T values). The visualization includes checkboxes for each category, allowing users to filter which types of connections appear in the network. Toggling a checkbox removes or reintroduces nodes and their associated links from the layout, with the graph responding via animated transitions. Nodes are colored by category using a 20-color ordinal scale, and hovering over a node reveals a tooltip with its properties. The layout initially shows all nodes and links, and users can interactively filter the graph in real time by unchecking categories, with a reset button to restore the full graph. This example demonstrates the general update pattern for data joins in force-directed layouts using D3 v4 and SVG.This interactive force-directed graph lets you filter a network of 20 nodes by toggling any of 16 category checkboxes. Each node represents an entity with multiple categorical tags (T), and links connect nodes that share a tag, with edges colored by that shared tag. Unchecking a category removes all associated nodes and links, while checking it restores them, with the layout smoothly rebalancing via D3's force simulation. The graph renders as an animated SVG, using the general update pattern for data joins. Tooltips provide additional detail on hover.

D3: Force layout

A force-directed network graph displays ten named nodes connected by thirteen edges, with each node rendered as a colored circle and edges as gray lines. The simulation uses the D3 v3 `d3.layout.force` API, configured with a link distance of 50 and a charge of -100, to position nodes dynamically within a 500 by 300 pixel SVG canvas. Node colors come from `d3.scale.category10()`, and drag interaction is enabled via `force.drag`. The visualization updates on each tick of the force simulation, which adjusts node coordinates and redraws the SVG elements accordingly.
