This visualization displays the top 10 most populous countries as horizontal bars using D3 scales and React. It loads UN population data from a CSV via `d3.csv` and renders SVG rectangles with `scaleBand` for country positioning and `scaleLinear` for population values. The chart applies a margin convention by translating the SVG group to ensure padding around the plot area.

The Margin Convention

This example visualizes the top 10 most populous countries in 2020 as a horizontal bar chart using React and D3. The data, loaded via `d3.csv` from a UN population dataset, is rendered as SVG rectangles whose widths encode population values. A `scaleBand` positions countries along the y-axis, while a `scaleLinear` maps population to pixel widths. The chart demonstrates the margin convention by offsetting the render group with `transform` and calculating `innerHeight` and `innerWidth` from fixed margins.

Margin Convention

This example demonstrates the D3 margin convention by rendering a horizontal bar chart of the top 10 most populous countries in 2020, using UN population data loaded via `d3.csv`. The chart employs `d3.scaleBand` for country positioning and `d3.scaleLinear` for population values, with an SVG `<g>` element translated by the margin object to inset the visualization. React manages the state and lifecycle, fetching and filtering the data before mapping it to styled `<rect>` elements inside the SVG.

Margin Convention

A bar chart displays the ten most populous countries using UN population data for 2019. The D3 v7 scales, `scaleBand` and `scaleLinear`, map country names and population values to SVG rectangles. React state manages the asynchronous loading of the CSV via D3's `csv` function. The chart applies the margin convention by translating a group element, reserving space for axes and labels within a 960 by 500 viewport.

The Margin Convention

This visualization displays a horizontal bar chart of the top 10 most populous countries for 2020, using data from the UN Population 2019 dataset loaded via D3’s `csv` utility. It leverages React’s `useState` and `useEffect` hooks to manage asynchronous data fetching and rendering. The chart maps country names to the y-axis using `d3.scaleBand` and population values to the x-axis with `d3.scaleLinear`, drawing SVG `<rect>` elements within a translated group that applies a 20-pixel margin on all sides.

Margin Convention

This example demonstrates how to visualize the populations of the top ten countries using a bar chart rendered as static SVG elements in React. The chart uses a band scale for country names on the y-axis and a linear scale for population values on the x-axis, with a margin convention applied to position the chart within the viewport. Data is loaded from a CSV file containing UN population estimates for 2019 using `d3.csv`, while `d3.scaleBand` and `d3.scaleLinear` handle the scaling. The visualization is built with React functional components and hooks, with D3 v6 utilities supplying the data-processing and scale functions.

The Margin Convention

This visualization displays a horizontal bar chart of the top 10 most populous countries in 2020, using a bar for each nation’s population. Built with React and D3 v6, it loads data from a CSV file via `d3.csv`, then uses `scaleBand` and `scaleLinear` to map countries and population counts to SVG rectangles within a specified margin. The code highlights the "margin convention" by offsetting the chart’s group with `translate`, ensuring axes align to the drawing area’s inner bounds.

The Margin Convention

This example demonstrates the margin convention in D3 by rendering a horizontal bar chart of the top 10 most populous countries from a UN population dataset. The chart uses a React component with D3 scales (`scaleBand`, `scaleLinear`) to position and size SVG rectangles within a translated group element, explicitly reserving space via a margin object. The x-axis encodes population in 2020, while the y-axis displays country names. The code applies D3's `csv` loading and React's `useState` and `useEffect` hooks for data fetching.

The Margin Convention

This example displays the top ten countries from a UN population dataset as a horizontal bar chart. The bars are rendered as SVG rectangles, with their lengths encoding the 2020 population figures. The chart uses a margin convention to position the plotting area within the SVG canvas. The code employs d3’s `scaleBand` for the categorical y-axis, `scaleLinear` for the quantitative x-axis, and `csv` for data loading, while React manages the component’s state and renders the SVG output.
