A bowl of fruit animates through a general update pattern using D3 v7, showing five apples that are progressively removed or transformed into lemons over timed intervals. The visualization demonstrates enter, update, and exit selections: new circles grow from radius zero, existing ones transition to new positions and colors, and removed fruits shrink away before deletion. SVG circles are bound to data with unique IDs, using ordinal scales for color and radius mapping, with transitions lasting one second for each state change.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates D3’s general update pattern by animating a bowl of fruit as apples are removed or replaced with lemons. It shows the enter, update, and exit selections in action: new circles enter, existing circles transition their radius based on fruit type, and removed circles shrink to zero before being deleted. The code uses d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mapping, with d3.transition handling the 1-second animations. The visualization is driven by timed updates to a JavaScript array, which is re-rendered through the fruitBowl function.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern!

A bowl of fruit animates through a general update pattern using D3 v5 selections, showing circles representing apples and lemons as they enter, update, and exit. The visualization uses `selection.data` with object identity keys, `transition` for smooth radius changes, and ordinal scales for color and size. JavaScript `setTimeout` calls trigger three sequential state changes: removing a fruit from the end, changing an apple to a lemon, and filtering out a middle fruit. Circle elements are appended to an SVG canvas, with enter transitions starting at radius zero and exit transitions shrinking back to zero before removal.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the D3 general update pattern with a bowl of fruit rendered as animated SVG circles. Five apples appear, then transition through enter, update, and exit phases as fruits are removed or transformed into lemons. The code uses d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mappings, selection.data with a key function, and chained .transition().duration() calls to animate circle attributes. Fruit identities are tracked via random IDs, allowing smooth morphing between states over a three-second timeline.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

Five circles representing apples animate into a bowl-like arrangement using D3's general update pattern. The visualization demonstrates enter, update, and exit selections as apples are removed and one is replaced by a lemon, with color and radius scales mapping fruit type to visual properties. Using D3 v5, transitions animate the circles' position and radius over one second, while the exit selection shrinks removed circles to zero before deletion.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

A bowl of fruit demonstrates the D3.js general update pattern for animated transitions. Five apples appear as red circles, then one is removed, another changes to a yellow lemon, and a filtered update removes a further item, all with 1000ms durations. The visualization uses D3’s selection methods, including `enter`, `merge`, and `exit`, with `.transition()` to animate circle radii and positions. SVG circles are bound to data via keys, and color and size scales map fruit types to visual attributes.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

A dynamic SVG visualization demonstrates the general update pattern in D3 v5, where fruit appears as colored circles that grow, shrink, and change color as apples are eaten and replaced with lemons. The fruitBowl module uses d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius scales, with enter, merge, and exit selections chained to transition.attr for smooth 1000-millisecond animations. Data updates triggered by setTimeout calls modify the fruits array, showing how keyed data joins handle additions, removals, and modifications while maintaining circle identity.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

Five circles represent apples in an SVG bowl, and a sequence of animated updates demonstrates D3's general update pattern. The visualization starts with five apples, then removes one, changes another into a lemon, and finally filters out a third fruit, using enter, merge, and exit selections. D3 v6 scales map fruit types to colors and radii, while transitions animate radius and position changes over one second. The `fruitBowl` module handles the data join with `selection.data`, `enter.append`, and `exit.remove` APIs.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern.js

This example demonstrates the D3 general update pattern with a bowl of fruit represented as colored circles. Apples appear and disappear, and one apple transforms into a lemon, while all changes animate smoothly over one second. The code uses d3.select, d3.range, scaleOrdinal for color and radius mappings, and transition().duration() with .attr() and .remove() to handle enter, update, and exit selections. Data consists of objects with type and id properties, rendered as SVG circles.
