Five circles representing fruit transition smoothly as they are added, updated, and removed. The example demonstrates D3's data join with enter, update, and exit selections. Using d3.transition with a one-second duration, each circle's radius, fill color, and x-position animate via attribute interpolation. The code uses scaleOrdinal for categorical color and radius mapping, and random IDs to track elements as apples are replaced by lemons and removed over timed intervals.

Circle Transitions

Five apples appear as circles in a row. Over time, the dataset is modified: one fruit is removed, another changes type to a lemon, and a third is filtered out. D3's SVG circle elements animate their position and radius, with color and size scaling based on fruit type. The `transition` API handles the smooth changes in position, radius, and removal.

Data join and Transition

This example demonstrates the data join pattern with animated transitions in D3 v5, showing how circles representing fruit enter, update, and exit. Starting with five apples, the visualization removes a fruit after one second, changes the third fruit's type to lemon at two seconds, and filters out another item at three seconds. Each change triggers a smooth 1-second transition where new circles grow from radius zero, existing circles adjust their color, size, and position, and removed circles shrink away. The code uses `selection.data()`, `selection.enter()`, `selection.merge()`, and `selection.exit()` with `transition().duration()` for the animations, along with `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping.

Data join and Transition

This example demonstrates a data join and transition animation in D3 v5, where a set of circles representing fruits is dynamically updated. The visualization shows how the `selectAll` and `data` (with a custom key function) methods manage entering, updating, and exiting elements—new apples grow from a radius of zero, a lemon changes color and size, and a removed fruit shrinks away. The code uses D3's `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mappings and leverages the `transition` API for smooth, 1000-millisecond animations.

of Fruit - Animated Transitions

Animated fruit bowl circles transition smoothly between states as apples are eaten or replaced by lemons. Using D3 v5 with SVG rendering, circles enter and exit by animating their radius from zero to its final value, while updates transition both position and size. The d3 selection join pattern with object constancy via id tracks individual fruits across data changes. Color and radius are mapped through d3.scaleOrdinal with transition durations of one second.

Bowl of Fruit - Animated Transitions

Five circles representing apples and lemons animate in a bowl-like row using SVG. Entering circles grow from radius zero, exiting circles shrink to zero, and existing circles transition their position, size, and color via d3-transition. The example demonstrates key-based data joins and ordinal color and radius scales in d3 v5.

Bowl of Fruit: Nested Elements with Transitions

Five apples enter a bowl as circles with a smooth transition, then shrink and disappear as the fruit is eaten, while one apple turns into a lemon and changes color and size. The d3.v5 code uses a data join with enter, update, and exit selections, nesting circles and text inside groups. Transitions animate radius changes, and exit transitions shrink circles before removal, with scaleOrdinal mapping fruit types to colors and radii.

D3-8: Enter, Exit, Update (transitions)

This example demonstrates enter, exit, and update transitions in D3 by animating fruit objects represented as SVG circles. Initially, five apples appear; after four seconds, the rightmost apple exits by shrinking and disappearing, while another apple is replaced by a lemon (update). A subsequent removal filters out the second apple, triggering an exit transition. The code uses `d3.select`, `d3.scaleOrdinal`, and D3's transition API with `.transition().duration()`, `merge()`, and `.exit()` to handle the changes smoothly over six seconds.

animated transitions try

The example demonstrates animated transitions of fruit shapes in an SVG bowl, showing apples and lemons that appear, disappear, and change type over time. Using D3.js v5 with the `select`, `range`, and `scaleOrdinal` APIs, it employs data joins with enter, update, and exit selections. The `fruitBowl` module handles rendering, applying `transition().duration(1000)` to smoothly animate circle radii and colors as fruits are eaten or replaced.
