A row of apples animates with d3 transitions, sliding horizontally and updating as fruits are removed or change type. Labels follow each circle's position using the same transform logic, and exiting elements shrink to zero radius before removal. The example uses d3 v5 selections, `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius by fruit type, and SVG groups with merged enter/update selections for smooth animated updates.

Bowl of Fruit - Animated Transitions

Circles representing apples animate into a row, then smoothly transition as fruit is eaten or changed. The example demonstrates animated data joins using D3 v5 selections, merging enter and update sets and applying `transition().duration()` to shift positions and radii. A time-driven script mutates the fruit array, swapping an apple for a lemon and filtering out elements, while exit transitions shrink circles to zero before removal. The SVG rendering uses ordinal scales for color and radius, keyed by unique fruit IDs.

Fruitbowl V2 transitions

Rows of apples and lemons animate as fruit is eaten or replaced in this SVG chart. The example demonstrates D3's data join with a key function, using `selection.enter`, `merge`, and `exit` to manage updates. Transitions smoothly shift circle positions and radii over one second. Data arrays are modified via `setTimeout`, triggering re-renders with `d3.scaleOrdinal` mapping fruit types to colors and sizes.

Bowl of Fruit: Transitions

A bowl of apples transitions through eat-and-replace actions: apples shrink and vanish, one apple morphs into a lemon, and the layout shifts. D3 v5 selections with `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` handle the data joins, while `transition().duration(1000)` animates radius and fill changes. An ordinal color scale and radius scale map fruit types to red/yellow and 50/30 pixels, rendered as SVG circles.

Bowl of Fruit - Animated Transitions

Five apples sit in a silver bowl. Over four seconds, the apples disappear one at a time, and one turns into a lemon, with each change animated by shrinking or recoloring the fruit circles. The example uses d3’s `selectAll`, `transition`, and `scaleOrdinal` APIs to map fruit type to color and radius. Fruit data is generated in JavaScript with `range` and `Math.random()`, and the SVG rendering updates through the custom `fruitBowl` export.

Bowl of Fruit: Animated Transitions

Five circles representing apples appear in a row, rendered as SVG circles with a red fill. Over two seconds, one fruit is removed and a middle apple transitions to a lemon, changing its color to yellow and shrinking its radius. The example uses d3 v5 with selection joins, `.enter()`, `.exit()`, and scaleOrdinal for color and size mappings, demonstrating basic animated data updates.

Bowl of fruit - nested and with transition

A bowl of fruit demonstrates nested SVG group elements and animated transitions. Five apples initially render in a row, with each fruit represented as a group containing a circle and a text label. At one-second intervals, an apple disappears, an apple transforms into a lemon, and the second apple is removed. D3's data join with key functions tracks fruits by unique IDs, while `transition().duration(1000)` animates position changes on exit. Scales map fruit types to colors, radii, and stroke styles.

Bowl of Fruit - Animated Transitions

This example demonstrates animated transitions of a row of circles representing apples and lemons, with items appearing, changing type, and being removed. It uses the D3.js library (v5) with the `scaleOrdinal` color and radius scales to map fruit types to visual properties. Transitions are executed via the `transition` API, animating the `cx` and `r` attributes over one second. The scenario is scripted with `setTimeout` calls that modify an array of fruit objects and re-render the SVG scene.

Bowl of Fruit

A bowl of fruit demonstrates animated transitions in D3. The visualization shows five apples rendered as red circles, with one apple turning into a lemon over time and two apples disappearing. The code uses D3 v5's data join, `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping, and `selection.transition` to animate circle radius changes. SVG circles are bound to fruit objects with unique IDs, and exit transitions shrink shapes to zero before removal.
