EdX Viewership Map, 2013
A world map displays the geographic distribution of video views in HarvardX and MITx online courses for 2013. Each circle’s radius encodes the total number of views at its location, with a tooltip revealing the exact country and view count on hover. The visualization uses a Mercator projection through `d3.geoPath` and `d3.geoMercator`, rendering land and graticules from the world-atlas TopoJSON. Data points, loaded via `d3.csv` from a GitHub Gist, use `d3.scaleSqrt` to map view counts to radius, all drawn as SVG marks within a React component.
AI-generated descriptionThis is a visualization of the Harvardx/MITx Course-Person Dataset for the academic year 2013. The data shows the number of video views of the online courses, represented by the circles on the map. The world map behind the points is a Mercator type map using the World Atlas TopoJSON. The points are off by a small fraction (down and to the left) however it fits much better on the Mercator projection over the Natural Earth projection. When the user hovers over each point, they can see the latitude and logitude of that deployment.
