A web-based reproduction of Sol LeWitt's wall drawing, rendered as a full-screen SVG using programmatic JavaScript. The piece displays a grid of thin, alternating horizontal and vertical gray bars, with a circular mask that inverts the contrast in the center, creating a subtle optical effect. It uses the raw SVG DOM API (`createElementNS`) to build elements, applying two masks (`circle-mask` and `circle-mask2`) to control visibility. The design is generated entirely in code, with no external libraries, drawing 100 horizontal and 100 vertical rectangles.

Sol LeWitt Reproduction vertical

This is a generative SVG reproduction of Sol LeWitt’s wall drawing, shown vertically across the full browser viewport. A circular mask, defined via SVG `<mask>` and a white circle, reveals only the central region of a grid of 100 horizontal and 100 vertical black rects. The horizontal rects are layered beneath the vertical ones and clipped by the mask, creating a contrasting circular window. The piece uses raw JavaScript DOM manipulation with `document.createElementNS` to build the SVG elements dynamically, with no external libraries.

Sol LeWitt Reproduction

This piece re-creates a Sol LeWitt wall drawing as a responsive, browser-based SVG composition. It shows a grid of horizontal and vertical black bars that intersect only within a central circular region, creating a dynamic interplay of lines and void. The code uses the Document Object Model (DOM) API, specifically `createElementNS` and `setAttribute`, to construct SVG elements. It applies two SVG masks, `mask` and `mask2`, to limit the drawn rectangles to the circle’s area, with the horizontal bars masked by a white circle and the vertical bars by the inverse.

Sol LeWitt reproduction

This piece reproduces a Sol LeWitt wall drawing using JavaScript to generate SVG elements dynamically. It displays a composition of horizontal and vertical striped rectangles that form a distinct circular pattern at the center of the viewport. The rendering uses two SVG masks, `inner-circle-mask` and `outer-circle-mask`, to control the visibility of the 100 horizontal and 100 vertical `<rect>` elements, which are sized relative to the window’s dimensions. The code relies on basic SVG APIs such as `createElementNS`, `setAttribute`, and `appendChild` to construct the artwork.

Sol LeWitt Reproduction

This piece reproduces a Sol LeWitt wall drawing using SVG. It displays a grid of horizontal and vertical bars, but only within two circular regions at the center of the canvas. Outside these circles, the rectangular elements are hidden. The code creates two SVG masks to control the visibility: the first mask reveals a white circle over a black background for the horizontal bars, while the second mask uses a black circle on white to show the vertical bars. All elements are generated procedurally through the SVG API in a single HTML file.

Sol LeWitt Reproduction Vertical

This piece recreates a Sol LeWitt-inspired drawing as a dynamic, full-screen SVG. The visualization shows a series of 100 horizontal black bars, each 10 pixels tall, confined to a circular aperture centered on the screen. The code generates the artwork procedurally, using JavaScript to build the SVG structure and the `mask` element to clip the rectangles into the circle. The result is a clean, generative geometric composition that responds directly to the browser window's dimensions.

Sol LeWitt Repro w/ vanilla JS

A full-screen SVG reproduction of a Sol LeWitt wall drawing displays two interlocking sets of thin vertical and horizontal bars. A central circular mask inverts the visibility of the two grids, creating a stark contrast between the denser vertical lines inside the circle and the horizontal lines outside. The piece is built with vanilla JavaScript, dynamically creating SVG elements and applying mask definitions without any external libraries. The code generates one hundred vertical and one hundred horizontal rectangles, using the `mask` attribute to alternate their visibility based on the circle’s boundary.

Sol LeWitt Reproduction Vertical

This reproduction of a Sol LeWitt wall drawing uses SVG to display two sets of perpendicular, evenly spaced horizontal and vertical lines. A circular mask restricts the visible pattern to a central disc, creating a clean, geometric composition. The code uses the Document API (`document.createElementNS`) to build the SVG structure and applies a `<mask>` with a `<circle>` to clip the lines. It generates one hundred horizontal and vertical `<rect>` elements, each ten pixels thick, with the horizontal band masked. The visual effect directly mimics LeWitt’s instructional art, translating his line-based system into an interactive browser window.

Sol LeWitt Reproduction Vertical

A web-based reproduction of Sol LeWitt’s wall drawing uses overlapping horizontal and vertical striped bands. The piece shows alternating white and black bars, with a central circular area where the vertical stripes appear, while the horizontal stripes remain visible around it. Built with raw SVG elements and the CSS mask API, the code creates two circle-shaped masks to toggle stripe visibility. The design fills the entire browser window, using a fixed stripe thickness of 10 pixels and no external data source.
