A bowl of fruit updates as apples are eaten or replaced by lemons, demonstrating the general update pattern with enter, update, and exit selections. Over timed intervals, the SVG visualization removes the last apple, swaps the middle apple for a lemon, and filters out another apple, using d3.enter and d3.exit to manage the groups. The code uses d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mapping, with d3.select for the container and d3.range to generate initial data.

Five apples rest in a bowl, then a scripted sequence updates them: one disappears, another becomes a lemon, and a third is removed. The visualization demonstrates the D3 general update pattern by binding an array of fruit objects to SVG groups. It uses `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius, rendering with `selectAll`, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` to manage DOM elements, with `setTimeout` triggering data changes.

072519 - 9:09pm Before Animations Bowl of Fruit - General Update Patter

Five circles represent a bowl of fruit, starting as five apples. Over time, the general update pattern modifies this collection: an apple is eaten, a second apple transforms into a lemon, and another apple is removed. The visualization uses D3 v5's `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping and the select/append/merge/exit pattern for declarative SVG updates. D3's `range` and `select` initialize the data and target the SVG element, respectively.

072619 - Bowl of Fruit with Animation - General Update Patter

A bowl of fruit demonstrates the general update pattern in D3. Apples and lemons appear as colored circles with text labels, and the visualization reacts to changes in the underlying data array. Every second, a timeout triggers a mutation—removing an apple, changing an apple to a lemon, or filtering out a specific item—and re-renders the scene using the `fruitBowl` module. The code uses D3’s `select`, `range`, and `scaleOrdinal` APIs, and renders to an SVG canvas with a fixed width and height, showing how enter, update, and exit selections handle dynamic data.

072519 - 5:25pm Bowl of Fruit - General Update Patter

A bowl of fruit demonstrates the general update pattern as apples and lemons are added, removed, and replaced over time, with each fruit transitioning smoothly between positions and sizes. The example uses D3 v5 with SVG and animation, employing `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mappings, and the enter-merge-exit selection pattern. Data-driven circles transition from zero radius on entry, update their type and position, and shrink to zero on exit, with random IDs tracking each fruit throughout the lifecycle.

072619 - Bowl of Fruit with Animation - General Update Patter

A bowl of fruit changes over time as apples are eaten, replaced, and removed through timed updates. The visualization demonstrates the D3 general update pattern, where entering elements (a new lemon), updated elements (a changed apple type), and exiting elements (a removed apple) are handled smoothly. Built with D3 v5 and rendered as SVG, it uses ordinal scales for fruit color and radius, with all shapes and labels re-rendered on each state change. The scene is drawn using simple rectangles and groups, with no animation transitions, only discrete state updates.

Animated Bowl of fruit - General Update Pattern

A bowl of fruit animates through the general update pattern as apples are eaten, replaced with lemons, and removed. The example demonstrates D3's enter, update, and exit selections with SVG elements, using `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping. The code shows data joins on `<g>` groups, appending circles and text, while transitions are triggered by `setTimeout` to modify the fruit array and re-render.

072519 - 5:25pm Bowl of Fruit - General Update Patter

Five apples appear as red circles, then the visualization demonstrates D3's general update pattern through a sequence of data changes. The scene removes one fruit, changes an apple to a yellow lemon, and filters out another apple, animating each transition over one second using `transition().duration()`. The code uses d3.v5 with `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius, keyed data joins with `selection.data()`, and enter/merge/exit selections to handle updates smoothly.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

A row of apples animates through enter, update, and exit states as fruits are eaten and replaced by a lemon. The visualization demonstrates D3's general update pattern, using keyed data joins and transition delays to morph circle radii and fill colors over one-second intervals. The code employs d3.scaleOrdinal for color and size mapping, with selection.merge and exit transitions, all rendered as SVG circles in a static bowl-like arrangement.
