Smiley Face Part II

A yellow circle follows the mouse cursor across a 960 by 500 SVG canvas. The example demonstrates stateful interaction in React, where the circle's center coordinates update based on the cursor's position. The React app uses the `useState` hook to track mouse movement and ReactDOM to render the SVG element, which handles the `onMouseMove` event.

Loading and Parsing CSV Data

This example demonstrates how to fetch and display raw CSV data in the browser console. It uses the standard JavaScript `fetch` API within an `async` function to retrieve a remote text file from a GitHub Gist URL, which contains CSS named colors formatted as comma-separated values. The code then calls `response.text()` to extract the content and logs the entire string to the console. A commented-out alternative implementation shows a non-async version of the same fetch-and-parse process, but no actual parsing or visualization occurs in the visible code.

Smiley Faces

A grid of 18 smiley faces renders as React components, each with randomized facial features including eye offset, eye radius, stroke width, and mouth dimensions. The faces use SVG circles for the background and eyes, while the mouth is drawn as a D3 arc path with specified inner and outer radii. All elements are positioned within a transformed SVG group using React and D3 v7, with properties passed as props from the parent App component to the reusable Face, Eyes, Mouth, and BackgroundCircle components.

Art

This example displays the text “Hello D3 version 7” centered on the page, rendered at a very large font size. It demonstrates the minimal setup for using D3 version 7 by loading the library from a CDN and then calling `select('body').text()` to set the text content. The code uses the `select` function from the D3 API to target the body element and assign the string, with the page styling done through CSS. No data visualization or complex interaction is involved; it is a basic starting point for D3-based web projects.
