Making a Bar Chart
This visualization animates a bar chart race showing the population of the world's top 10 most populous cities from 1500 to 2019. D3.js renders the bars with SVG, using a dynamic year label and animated transitions to reorder the bars as populations shift over time. The data is loaded from a CSV file. A halo effect highlights text by temporarily stroking cloned text elements. The code uses D3's `scaleLinear`, `scaleBand`, axis helpers, and `topojson` for an inset world map, although the primary chart is the animated bar chart.
