Selecting a Year on a Line Chart

This line chart displays population trends over time for global regions, using United Nations population estimates from 1950 to 2100. A movable vertical line marks the currently selected year, and moving the mouse across the chart updates the selection to the nearest year, re-rendering the visualization. The chart uses d3.line with curveBasis for smooth paths, d3.scaleTime and d3.scaleLinear for axes, and d3.nest to group data by region. A separate color legend identifies each region, with SVG rendering and d3.mouse handling for interaction.

Shapes and Colors with SVG and CSS

This example demonstrates how SVG shapes can be styled and colored using both SVG attributes and CSS rules. The visualization renders a blank red SVG canvas, with CSS classes defining stroke properties for line elements and paths, including a custom teal color for path strokes with rounded joins and caps. The code uses d3.select to target the SVG element and applies an inline background color, while the stylesheet imports D3 v5 from a CDN. The rendering approach relies entirely on SVG's built-in shape and styling capabilities rather than data-driven generation.
