Vega-Lite API Religion Bar Chart

This bar chart visualizes the population of five countries broken down by religion, using a stacked bar layout ordered by total population. The visualization is built programmatically through the Vega-Lite API, which registers Vega and Vega-Lite libraries and renders an SVG view with tooltips. Data is loaded via d3.csv from a Gist containing the UCI Auto MPG dataset, though the chart actually displays religion data from a separate CSV file. The chart uses Vega-Lite’s markBar encoding for x, y, color, and tooltip channels, with custom configuration for axis styling and font sizes.

Loading Data w/ React and D3

This example demonstrates how to load external CSV data with D3 and manage it through React state. The app uses `d3.csv` to fetch a dataset from a GitHub gist, storing the parsed result via React's `useState` and `useEffect` hooks. While the data loads, the screen displays “loading”; once available, a custom `message` function reports the dataset’s size in kilobytes, row count, and column count as large SVG text. The visualization is minimal, focusing on the integration of D3's data-loading utilities with React's component lifecycle.

Mouse Follower

A single SVG circle follows the mouse cursor across a 960 by 500 viewport, updating its position in real time. The React component uses the `useState` hook to store the cursor’s `clientX` and `clientY` coordinates and the `useCallback` hook to handle the `onMouseMove` event on the SVG element. Each mouse movement re-renders the circle’s `cx` and `cy` attributes, creating a direct, immediate visual response without animation or interpolation. The rendering relies solely on React’s declarative SVG output.

Loading Parsing CSV Data

This example demonstrates how to load and parse a CSV file, displaying file size, row count, and column count on a webpage. It uses d3.csv to fetch a remote dataset from a GitHub gist raw URL, then formats the results with d3.csvFormat to calculate kilobytes. The page also includes commented-out code showing an alternative approach using fetch, async/await, and d3.csvParse. A large pre element displays the final statistics as text.

Fork of Hello HTML

A React app renders a grid of 18 stylized faces, each a yellow circle with a black stroke, two eyes, and an arched mouth. The faces vary randomly in eye radius and mouth width, creating subtle differences across the repeated components. The visualization demonstrates a component-based approach to SVG generation, using React for structure and d3’s `arc` function to create the mouth paths. Each face is drawn with shared components like `BackgroundCircle`, `Eyes`, and `Mouth`, all composed within an SVG container.
