Fork of Fork of Rendering Data with React & d3

This example visualizes CSS named colors as a radial burst, with each color occupying a wedge of a pie chart. The code loads color data from a CSV file using `d3.csv`, then uses React hooks (`useState` and `useEffect`) to manage the asynchronous data fetching and rendering. It builds the chart with `d3.pie` and `d3.arc` to compute the path geometry, drawing SVG `<path>` elements filled with each color’s RGB hex value. The visualization uses React for DOM rendering and D3’s utility functions for data processing.

Fork of Rendering Data with React & d3

This example displays a radial burst of colored slices representing CSS named colors, loaded from a CSV file via d3.csv. Each slice corresponds to one color entry, with its fill set to the color’s RGB hex value. React manages the component state and renders the SVG, while d3’s pie and arc functions compute the angular layout and path geometry, creating a full circular visualization from the dataset.

Fork of Fork of Vega-Lite API Template

This visualization uses the Vega-Lite API to render a circle-mark scatter plot of religious affiliations across countries, with circle size encoding population and tooltips revealing exact values. The data comes from the UCI Machine Learning Repository’s Auto MPG dataset, though the actual CSV loaded through d3.csv is a top-5 religions per country dataset. The code registers Vega-Lite with Vega, applies a custom dark theme via the config object, and renders the chart as an SVG that fits the full window. The visualization is interactive, with tooltips handled through vega-tooltip.

Rendering Data with React

A horizontal stacked bar visualization displays the full CSS named color palette as 960-pixel-wide rows, each 4 pixels tall and colored by its RGB hex value. The example demonstrates React’s declarative rendering of D3-loaded data, using `d3.csv` to fetch the color dataset and `useState`/`useEffect` hooks to manage asynchronous loading. React elements map each CSV row to a styled `div` with an inline background color, showing how D3 handles data acquisition while React handles DOM updates.

Fork of Vega-Lite API Template

This visualization presents a bubble chart of religious affiliations by country, using circle size to encode population and color to distinguish religions. The chart is built with the Vega-Lite API, which registers Vega and Vega-Lite libraries, and uses D3’s `csv` loader to fetch data from the UCI Machine Learning Repository’s Auto MPG dataset. The visualization incorporates a custom config for axis styling and tooltips via Vega-Tooltip, with a dark color scheme for improved readability.

Fork of Loading and Parsing CSV Data

This example demonstrates how to load and parse CSV data using D3.js, displaying summary statistics about the dataset directly on the page. It fetches a CSV file containing CSS named colors from a GitHub gist and calculates the file size in kilobytes, row count, and column count. The visualization uses `d3.csv` to asynchronously retrieve and parse the data, then `d3.csvFormat` to measure its length, and finally updates a `<pre>` element with the results. No charts or graphics are rendered—only the textual metadata is shown.

Fork of Mouse Follower

A yellow circle tracks the mouse's movement across an SVG canvas, using React's `useState` and `useCallback` hooks to update its position in real time. The circle reacts instantly to pointer movement, with its center following the `clientX` and `clientY` coordinates from the browser's mouse event. Rendered through ReactDOM, the application leverages D3.js version 5 for the SVG environment while relying entirely on React state management for the dynamic positioning.

Mouse Follower

A circle follows the mouse cursor within an SVG canvas, updating its position in real time as the pointer moves. Built with React, the application tracks mouse coordinates using an `onMouseMove` event handler and stores them in state via `useState`. The circle’s `cx` and `cy` attributes are bound to this state, and the SVG is rendered through ReactDOM. D3.js is included but not used for drawing; the interaction relies solely on React’s event system.

Loading and Parsing CSV Data

This example demonstrates how to fetch and display raw CSV content in the browser console. It loads a remote CSV file containing CSS named colors from a GitHub gist, parses the fetched text, and logs the resulting string for inspection. The code uses the Fetch API through a custom async `fetchText` helper, which retrieves the file and returns its text content. The implementation relies on JavaScript Promises and `async/await` syntax, with a commented-out alternative showing the classic promise chain approach.
