Untitled

This stacked bar chart displays the total population for each state across selected years, with bars segmented by three categories. A dropdown menu lets viewers switch between years, triggering a smooth transition that updates bar heights and the y-axis scale. The visualization is built with D3.js v5, using d3.stack for data aggregation, d3.scaleBand and d3.scaleLinear for positioning, and SVG transitions to animate changes. Data comes from a local CSV file, with each bar labeled with its total value.

Untitled

This interactive stacked bar chart displays the distribution of three categories across U.S. states for a selected year, with a dropdown menu to switch between years. The visualization uses D3.js v5’s `d3.csv` to load data, `d3.scaleBand` and `d3.scaleLinear` for axes, and `d3.stack()` to compute stacked segments. Animated transitions (via `transition().duration()`) smoothly update bar heights and axis labels. Total values for each state are shown above the bars. The SVG rendering includes axis groups and colored layers, with the year selector populated from the dataset.

Age Distribution Chart

The chart displays the age distribution of deaths across various causes of illness, with each cause represented as a stacked bar segmented by age group. Users can toggle between raw death counts and normalized percentages using radio buttons. The visualization is built with D3.js, using ordinal and linear scales, stacked layout, and SVG axes. It animates transitions between the two modes with a 250-millisecond duration, and includes interactive hover effects that reduce rectangle opacity. Data is loaded from a CSV file containing cause-specific mortality counts by age bracket.
