Task 9&10

A pie chart displays the proportional quantities of five car models from a CSV file, with slices labeled by name. The static SVG visualization is built using D3 v7, loading data via `d3.csv` and computing arc paths with `d3.arc`. A categorical color scale from `d3.scaleOrdinal` colors each slice, while a custom legend lists the model names alongside colored swatches. The chart is rendered inside an SVG canvas with fixed dimensions, and slice labels are positioned using arc centroids.

Task 9&10 Q 1.2

This example shows monthly revenue as a filled area chart, with the area rendered in steelblue and axes labeled “Month” and “Revenue ($)”. It uses D3 v7 with an SVG output, loading data from a CSV file via `d3.csv`, mapping months to the x-axis with `d3.scaleBand` and revenue to a linear y-axis, then drawing the area with `d3.area` and a `path` element. Axes are added using `d3.axisBottom` and `d3.axisLeft` for reference.

Activity 6 Task 4

Activity Question 3B

This scatter plot displays 50 randomly generated data points, each colored red or blue to represent group A or B. The visualization uses D3 v7 to render an SVG chart with linear scales and axes. The code generates random x and y values between 0 and 100, then plots circles with a radius of 5 pixels using d3.axisBottom and d3.axisLeft for the coordinate system.

Activity 6 Question 4

This bubble chart displays 20 randomly generated data points, each positioned by x and y coordinates with a size value controlling the bubble radius. The visualization uses D3.js version 7 to render an SVG, employing d3.scaleLinear for the x-axis, y-axis, and bubble size scales, along with d3.axisBottom and d3.axisLeft for the chart axes. The dots appear as semi-transparent circles (fill-opacity 0.5), plotted directly from JavaScript-generated random values without any external data file.

Activity 6 Question 2

This interactive stacked bar chart displays annual values for four categories from 1995 to 2003, loaded from a CSV file. Radio buttons toggle between two animated transitions: the first highlights bars with a green stroke, while the second narrows each bar and shifts it horizontally with a red stroke. The visualization uses D3 v4’s `d3.stack`, `d3.scaleBand`, `d3.scaleLinear`, and `d3.scaleOrdinal`, rendering shapes as SVG rectangles with `transition()` calls animating x, y, width, and stroke attributes.

Activity Task 2

A stacked horizontal bar chart displays the percentage distribution of IMDb ratings across six movie genres, with each genre’s bar divided into five rating buckets from below 5.0 to above 8.5. The visualization uses D3 v7’s `d3.stack()` to compute the stacked series, `d3.scaleLinear` and `d3.scaleBand` for positioning, and `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color mapping. Interactive tooltips, built with appended HTML elements, reveal the exact percentage on hover. Data is loaded from CSV, and rendering is done via SVG.

Activity 6 Task 3

This D3.js scatter plot visualizes the Iris dataset, mapping petal length and width for each flower sample. The circles are color-coded by species, with skyblue for setosa, lightgreen for versicolor, and orange for virginica. The visualization uses `d3.csv` to load data from a gist, `d3.scaleLinear` for both axes, and `d3.axisLeft` and `d3.axisBottom` to render the axes with a green axis label positioned via rotation. The SVG rendering uses a `join` operation to bind data to circle elements.

5 Buddhas

5 Buddhas is a generative SVG artwork built with React that layers 21×21×21 randomly placed semi-transparent polygons into a towering composition. Each polygon's position, fill color, and rotation are derived from pseudo-random calculations, producing a dense, colorful field of overlapping geometric forms. Superimposed on this generative backdrop is a single, large golden Buddha silhouette, whose path is drawn from a detailed SVG path definition. The overall effect contrasts the chaotic, algorithmic repetition of the polygon grid with the calm, iconic form of the Buddha, rendered in a black void with vibrant, high-opacity colors.
