Making a Bar Chart

This example visualizes the top 10 most populous countries using a horizontal bar chart ordered by population. The chart displays population values on the x-axis with tick labels formatted in billions (e.g., "1.42B") and country names on the y-axis. It uses D3 v5’s `csv`, `scaleLinear`, `scaleBand`, `axisLeft`, and `axisBottom` to load data and render SVG elements programmatically. The bars are filled with steelblue, and axis lines are removed for a cleaner presentation. The data comes from `data.csv`, which is loaded asynchronously via D3’s `csv` function.

Bar Chart

A horizontal bar chart displays population estimates for ten countries, with bars ordered from China at the top to Mexico at the bottom. Population values are read from a CSV file and scaled linearly, while country names are mapped to a band scale. The chart is rendered as SVG using D3 v5, with axes generated by `axisLeft` and `axisBottom`. The bars themselves are appended as `rect` elements with a steelblue fill, and the visualization includes margins and a padding between bars.

Let's make a face with D3.js!

This example demonstrates fundamental DOM manipulation with D3.js by building a smiley face in an SVG canvas. The code selects the `<svg>` element, retrieves its width and height attributes, and positions a circle at the center using those dimensions. It uses D3’s `select` method and chained attribute setters like `attr(‘r’)`, `attr(‘cx’)`, and `attr(‘cy’)` to control the face’s radius and coordinates. The rendering relies on D3 v5 with SVG output, and the accompanying video highlights interactive eyebrow movement.
