Gantt Chart of USSR Elites
This Gantt chart displays the tenures of Soviet-era political elites, with each horizontal bar spanning from an individual’s start to end time within the Politburo. The chart uses D3 v5 to append an SVG canvas, scales time along the x-axis, and assigns each person to a distinct row, coloring bars by the general secretary’s era. A red tooltip appears on hover, revealing the encoded attributes stored in the data array, such as name, birth and death dates, exit type, and job title. The visualization also renders a light gray grid to aid chronological comparison.
