Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern.js
The visualization demonstrates the D3 general update pattern with a bowl of fruit that changes over time. Five circles representing apples with a red fill and 50-pixel radius sit in a beige bowl rendered as a rounded rectangle. As the simulation runs, the dataset modifies through removal, type changes, filtering, and complete replacement, with entering circles appearing, existing circles updating position and size based on ordinal color and radius scales, and exiting circles shrinking to zero before removal. The code uses d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mapping, transition().duration() for animations, and selectAll().enter().merge().exit() for the update pattern, with a timeout sequence driving the state changes.
