Visal Refusals Choropleth Map

A choropleth world map visualizes visa refusal rates by country for 2019, with a yellow-orange-red sequential color scale indicating increasing refusal counts and gray for missing data. Built with React and D3 v5, it uses `geoAzimuthalEqualArea` for projection, `geoPath` for rendering country boundaries, graticules, and sphere outlines, plus `scaleSequential` with `interpolateYlOrRd` for coloring. Country codes are matched from ISO data, and country shapes come from World Atlas TopoJSON.

Chloropleth Map Interactive

A choropleth map shows world countries colored by economy type, with a legend that filters and highlights selected categories. The visualization supports zooming and panning, and dims non-selected countries while emphasizing those matching the chosen economy. It uses d3.geoPath with the geoNaturalEarth1 projection to render the map, and d3.scaleOrdinal with schemeSpectral for coloring. Country data comes from world-atlas TopoJSON and TSV files, with hover effects and a clickable color legend for interaction.

Choropleth Map

This choropleth map colors countries by their economy classification using an ordinal color scale with a spectral scheme. The geographic data comes from the world-atlas TopoJSON dataset, which is processed with topojson.feature and joined to TSV metadata. A natural Earth projection renders the map via d3.geoPath, while d3.zoom enables panning and zooming. Hovering highlights countries in red, and a custom color legend displays the color scale with circles and text labels.

US vs the World (Visa Refusals)

This choropleth visualizes visa refusal rates by country, using a yellow-or-brown color scale to indicate economic classification rather than refusal counts. The map, rendered as an SVG with a blue sphere background, uses a natural Earth projection and supports zooming. Data is loaded from the World Atlas TopoJSON and TSV files, with each country’s path colored via `d3.scaleOrdinal` and `schemeYlOrBr`. A custom color legend shows the ordinal categories, while hovering highlights a country in red and displays its name and economy type in a tooltip.

Google Play Store Apps

A horizontal bar chart ranks Google Play Store app categories by refusal rates, using a dark-themed layout for readability. The visualization loads CSV data from a GitHub gist via `d3.csv` and encodes country names on the y-axis with refusal counts on the x-axis, sorting bars in descending order for easy comparison of top categories. Built with `vega-lite-api`, the chart renders through Vega-Lite and Vega, with tooltip support and custom axis styling from a separate config file. The visualization spans the full viewport width and uses a fixed height to display all categories.

HIV/AIDS Choropleth Map

This choropleth map visualizes the share of the population aged 15–49 infected with HIV/AIDS for the year 2017, using a yellow-orange-red sequential color scale. Built with React and D3 v5, it renders geographic boundaries with `geoNaturalEarth1` and `geoPath`, while country-level data is joined to map features via ISO numeric codes. Missing countries appear gray, and the visualization includes graticules and interior borders for stylistic polish. Data comes from IHME and the World Atlas TopoJSON.

HIV/AIDS Choropleth Map

This visualization displays a choropleth world map of HIV/AIDS prevalence rates among adults aged 15-49 for the year 2017, using a yellow-to-red sequential color scale. The map renders country boundaries from World Atlas TopoJSON through `d3.geoNaturalEarth1` and `d3.geoPath`, with graticules and interiors drawn as separate SVG paths. React manages the data loading and state, pulling HIV prevalence statistics from an IHME CSV and mapping alpha-3 country codes to numeric identifiers via a supplementary ISO-3166 dataset. Countries without matching data appear gray.
