Rotating Globe

This example shows a continuously rotating orthographic globe, with country outlines and a graticule drawn over a dark ocean. The globe is interactive, allowing users to pan and zoom via a d3.zoom handler that applies a transform to the SVG group. The rotation is driven by a d3.timer that updates the d3.geoOrthographic projection’s rotation, while d3.geoPath renders the sphere, graticule, and land masses from World Atlas TopoJSON and TSV data. The visualization uses SVG with hover highlights on countries.

Future Asteroids

Twelve near-Earth asteroids appear in this horizontal bar chart, ranked by their minimum close-approach distance to Earth over the past year, with the nearest asteroid (2016 UR36) at the top and the farthest at the bottom. The chart uses D3 v6’s `scaleLinear` for the distance axis, `scaleBand` for the categorical object labels, and `axisLeft`/`axisBottom` to render the axes. The SVG plot is built by appending a `<g>` group, then drawing one `rect` per asteroid, with bar widths mapping to the `distancemin` values parsed from the CSV data sourced from Marc Di Marco’s “Future Asteroids” dataset.
