Theme River Graph

A theme river graph displays the median property value over time across Melbourne suburbs, colored either by property type or by number of bedrooms. Interactive buttons switch between grouping methods, and hovering reveals tooltips with details. The visualization uses d3.nest to aggregate data from a CSV, calculates yearly medians, and renders stacked areas with d3.area and d3.curveCardinal, offset by d3.stackOffsetSilhouette. The SVG output is driven by d3.scaleLinear axes, with color assigned via d3.scaleOrdinal and d3.schemeCategory10.

Theme River

A theme river visualizes the change in box office ratings categories (G, PG, PG-13, R) over time from 1983 to 2016. Streams are stacked with the `d3.stack()` API using a silhouette offset, rendered as filled SVG paths with cardinal curve interpolation via `d3.area()`. Hovering over a stream shows a tooltip displaying the category, year, and value, while a small dashboard appears in the corner. The color scale uses `d3.scaleOrdinal` with `d3.schemeCategory10`, and data comes from the CSV file `ratings.csv`.

Stacked Bar Charts

This stacked bar chart displays the weighted performance scores of universities across five categories: Teaching, Research, Citations, Industry Income, and International Outlook. The data, sourced from a CSV file, is loaded using d3.csv and rendered as SVG rectangles arranged with d3.stack. Users can sort universities by overall score or individual category in ascending or descending order via drop-down menus and a confirm button. Hovering over the legend highlights one category while dimming others.

Correlation Matrix

The correlation matrix visualizes relationships among eight physical measurements of abalone, split into three separate panels for male, female, and infant groups. Each panel uses color-coded text for correlation coefficients above the diagonal and proportional circles below it, with black labels on the diagonal. The code loads data from `abalone.csv`, computes correlations with the `jz.arr.correlationMatrix` utility, and renders SVG elements using `d3.scaleLinear`, `d3.scalePoint`, and `d3.scaleSqrt`. Distinct color ranges per sex highlight varying correlation strengths across the groups.

Parallel Coordinate Plot

This interactive parallel coordinate plot visualizes the Iris dataset, showing how sepal and petal measurements vary across three flower species. Each line represents a single iris, with color-coded paths for setosa, versicolor, and virginica. Users can drag the four vertical axes to reorder them, causing the lines to re-render smoothly with a 300-millisecond transition on drag end. The visualization uses d3.scalePoint, d3.scaleLinear, d3.axisLeft, d3.drag, and d3.line to render the SVG paths and handle interactions.

Parallel Coordinate Plot

This parallel coordinate plot visualizes the Iris dataset, displaying four continuous measurements—sepal length, sepal width, petal length, and petal width—as vertical axes, with each flower represented by a semi-transparent polyline. The lines are colored by the three Iris species using a custom color scale, with a legend on the right identifying each class. Built with D3 v5, it uses `scalePoint` for the categorical axes, `scaleLinear` for the numeric range, and `line()` to generate the SVG paths. Each axis is drawn with `axisLeft`, and the data is loaded from a CSV file.

Iris parallel coordinate plot

This interactive parallel coordinate plot visualizes the classic Iris dataset, showing how four flower measurements (petal length, petal width, sepal length, sepal width) vary across three species, each colored red, green, or blue. Users can click and drag any axis label to reorder dimensions, with overlapping axes swapping positions automatically. Built with D3 v4, the SVG rendering uses `d3.scaleLinear` for axes, `d3.drag` for interactivity, and hover highlighting via `d3.transition` to dim non-selected lines, emphasizing the species under the cursor.

Parallel coordinate plot

This parallel coordinate plot visualizes the Iris dataset, showing measurements of sepal and petal length and width for three flower species. Colored polylines represent individual samples, with red, green, and blue distinguishing Iris-setosa, versicolor, and virginica. Users can click and drag axis titles to reorder dimensions, and hovering a line highlights all samples of that species while dimming others. The visualization uses D3 v5 with SVG rendering and transitions, constructing axes with `d3.axisLeft` and enabling drag behavior via `d3.drag`.

Fork of D3 Starter

This example demonstrates a minimal D3 starter template, displaying the static text “Hello D3 version 7” centered at a large font size using D3 v7.8.5. The page uses the `d3.select` API to target the `body` element and its `.text` method to insert the greeting. It loads D3 from a CDN via a script tag and structures the code into an external `bundle.js` file, showcasing the basic setup needed to begin working with the library. The rendering is purely text-based with CSS styling, containing no data visualization or interactive elements.

Fork of HTML Starter

This example displays a static “Hello HTML!” message centered on a plain webpage, styled with a 13em font size via CSS. The page uses no external libraries or data sources, relying solely on HTML structure and CSS styling. A JavaScript file is referenced in the project but contains no executable code, making this a minimal demonstration of core web technologies.
