A bar chart displays population figures for ten countries, with countries listed vertically and population encoded by horizontal bar length. The visualization uses D3 v5’s `csv`, `scaleLinear`, `scaleBand`, `axisLeft`, and `axisBottom` to load data, map values, and render axes. Orange rectangles are drawn in an SVG container with margins, positioned via the band scale’s y-coordinates and width from the linear scale.

This example displays a static bar chart of country populations, with the y-axis representing population values and the x-axis listing country names. It loads CSV data using `d3.csv` and converts the population figures by multiplying each value by 1,000. The visualization uses `d3.select` to access an SVG element defined in the HTML, with dimensions extracted from its attributes. The chart itself does not render any bars or axes in the provided code, as the data is only logged to the console after processing.
