Vega Lite API Template

This example shows a bar chart of population by country, colored by religion, using the Vega-Lite API within a React application. It renders stacked bars that sort countries by population and include tooltips for each data segment. The code loads CSV data from a GitHub gist via d3.csv, configures a dark theme with custom axis and label styles, and uses Vega-Lite’s declarative API to encode the chart. Vega and Vega-Lite are registered with a tooltip handler, and the final visualization is appended to the document body.

Fork of Fork of Hello HTML

A grid of procedurally generated cartoon faces illustrates how React components and D3 shape generator APIs can work together for generative art. Each face combines a yellow background circle, two eyes, and an arc-based mouth, with dimensions and positions randomized per instance via `Math.random()`. The rendering relies on React’s `createElement` and `ReactDOM.render`, while D3’s `arc` and `range` helpers define the mouth path and iteration count. SVG output is structured through custom components (`BackgroundCircle`, `Eyes`, `Mouth`, `FaceContainer`), demonstrating a modular, declarative approach to building multiple data-driven visual elements.

Loading Data with React & D3

This example demonstrates how to load and parse CSV data in a React application using D3’s `d3.csv` method, displaying a summary message with the dataset’s size, row count, and column count. The React component uses the `useState` and `useEffect` hooks to fetch the data asynchronously and render a loading fallback. The data comes from a GitHub gist containing CSS named colors. The code explicitly formats the loaded data with `d3.csvFormat` to calculate its size in kilobytes.
