Making a Bar Chart

This example visualizes the cumulative total of events from 1949 to 2019, with each year’s running total mapped to a bar in a simple bar chart. The visualization uses D3 v5’s `select` and `csv` functions to load data from a local CSV file, parse the numeric `running_total` column, and then append a fixed-width, fixed-height `rect` for each data point. The code does not scale the bars based on value, so all rectangles appear identical in size.

Making a Bar Chart

This example shows a bar chart where each bar represents the cumulative running total of data points per year, with the height of each bar fixed at 300 pixels. The visualization uses D3.js, specifically the `select`, `csv`, and `data` methods to load the `data.csv` file and append rectangles to an SVG. The code binds the parsed numeric `running_total` values to `rect` elements but does not encode the values in the bar sizes, leaving all bars equal in height.

HTML Starter

This example demonstrates a minimal HTML page that renders the text “Hello HTML” in the browser, centered with a very large font size. It uses plain HTML and CSS, with the `text-align` property and a 13em `font-size` applied to the body. The page is a bare-bones starter template, containing no JavaScript libraries or data sources, and serves as a baseline for building more complex visualizations. It loads an external stylesheet for the React version, but this standalone file relies only on built-in browser rendering.
