This visualization maps over 700 recorded earthquakes in the Netherlands between 1986 and 2017. Each earthquake is represented as a circle on a map of the country, with circle size encoding magnitude and color encoding depth. The dataset is loaded from a tab-separated text file containing location, time, magnitude, and depth for each event. Clicking on a circle reveals a tooltip with details such as the date, location, and magnitude. The map uses an SVG projection of the Netherlands, and the earthquakes are positioned by latitude and longitude coordinates. A subtle animation on load highlights the distribution of seismic activity across the region.
Fifty circles arranged in concentric rings around a central point animate on click. Selecting a circle moves it to the center and increases its count, while all other circles reposition based on their distance from the selected item’s count. The visualization uses D3 v4 scales (`d3.scaleSqrt`, `d3.scaleLinear`) to map data values to radius and color, with SVG circles and 800-millisecond transitions (`transition().duration(800)`). Randomly generated count data drives the layout, and clicking triggers a re-render that updates positions and fills.
