JS in HTML

This example demonstrates a webpage that displays the text “Hello HTML” in large, centered type, while also loading the D3.js library and importing its `select` function into the browser console. The page uses a simple HTML structure with an inline CSS style to format the message, and it references D3 v7.8.5 from the unpkg CDN. The accompanying JavaScript file imports `select` from D3 and logs it, showing how D3’s selection utilities can be accessed within a standard HTML document.

D3 Selection Exploration

This example demonstrates dynamic SVG circle generation and animation using D3 v7. An array of circles, generated from a sine-based function, continuously updates position and radius to create a flowing wave effect. The code uses D3's `select`, `selectAll`, `data`, and `join` methods to bind new data and manage enter/update/exit cycles. An interval-driven animation loop calls `vizData` at 60 frames per second, with data created by `makeData` using D3's `range` utility. The visualization runs in an HTML page with no external data sources.

JavaScript Arrays

This example demonstrates how to sort an array of objects by a key using D3’s `ascending` comparator within a JavaScript `sort()` method. The code defines three entries with keys and values, then logs the sorted array to the console. It relies on the D3 library version 7.8.5, importing the `ascending` function from the `d3` module. The example highlights a concise alternative to manual comparator logic, with commented-out code showing a `reduce` operation for future object transformation.

Sol LeWitt Reproduction with D3 - Shapes

This example reproduces a Sol LeWitt-inspired geometric composition using D3.js version 7, rendered as SVG in a React-free HTML page. It displays 100 horizontal and vertical barcode-like stripes that intersect with a row of alternating filled and unfilled symbol shapes (circles, crosses, diamonds, and others) generated via `d3.symbol` and `d3.symbols`. Two SVG masks (`mask-1` and `mask-2`) use inverted fill colors to selectively reveal or hide the stripes, creating a dynamic interlocking pattern across the full viewport width and height.

Fork of Sol LeWitt Reproduction with D3

This example generates a full-screen generative artwork with a grid of alternating vertical and horizontal bar stripes, separated by a circular mask. Built with React and rendered as SVG, it uses D3’s `select` and `range` to append 100 rectangles in each direction, then applies two mask definitions (`circle-mask` and `circle-mask-2`) to invert the pattern inside and outside the circle. The result is a modern, interactive take on a Sol LeWitt drawing, where the composition depends on the browser window’s dimensions.

Pseudo Horizontal

This example uses CSS and JavaScript to render a minimalist typographic composition within an SVG canvas. It presents four vertically stacked black rectangles of decreasing widths, each paired with a large letter (A, B, C, D) on the left. The layout creates a pseudo-horizontal effect, suggesting a progressive narrowing of space. The code directly uses SVG elements like `rect` and `text`, styled with the Share Tech font, to achieve the visual hierarchy without any external data or interaction.
