Making a Bar Chart

This bar chart displays the usage share of the top 23 programming languages, based on July 2019 data from PYPL, with shares scaled to represent votes out of 1000. The code uses D3 v5’s `scaleLinear` for the horizontal value axis and `scaleBand` for the vertical categorical axis, rendering bars as SVG rectangles. It loads data from `data.csv` via `d3.csv`, converts the share values to numeric, and appends axes with `axisLeft` and `axisBottom`. The chart emphasizes a straightforward, readable comparison of language popularity.

Making a Bar Chart

This example shows a horizontal bar chart of the population for the ten most populous countries, using 2018 estimates from the World Population Prospects 2017. The chart is rendered as an SVG, with bars ordered by country name and scaled linearly by population. The code uses D3 v5 modules including `csv`, `scaleLinear`, `scaleBand`, `axisLeft`, and `axisBottom` to load data, compute scales, and draw axes. Population values are multiplied by 1000 to reflect actual counts, and bars are styled with a steelblue fill.
