rendering data with react and d3

This example demonstrates a React component that renders a color wheel from CSS named colors using a donut chart layout. The application loads data from a CSV file containing color names and their corresponding hexadecimal values through d3.csv. It then maps each color to an arc segment using the d3.arc generator, positioning the paths within an SVG container. React’s useState and useEffect hooks manage the asynchronous data loading, while d3.v6 provides the arc calculation and data fetching utilities.

Fork of React Starter

This example demonstrates a minimal React application that fetches a CSV file containing CSS named colors using d3.csv and displays the first parsed data object to the console. The app uses React hooks, including useState and useEffect, to manage loading state and trigger the data request. A plain HTML document loads React, ReactDOM, and d3.v3 from CDNs, while the main component renders a "Loading..." message until the asynchronous data arrives. Although no visualization is rendered, the example illustrates the basic pattern for integrating D3 data loading within a React component.

Loading and Parsing CSV Data

This example demonstrates the simplest way to load and parse a CSV file in the browser using D3.js. It fetches a remote CSV containing CSS named colors, then displays the file size, row count, and column count in large text on the page. The code uses the native `fetch` API alongside `d3.csv` and `d3.csvFormat` to inspect the parsed dataset, revealing the structure of the data without rendering any charts. The result is a purely textual summary of the CSV’s dimensions.

My Face

A grid of eighteen faces, each composed of SVG shapes, is rendered using React and D3. The face components, including a yellow background circle, black eyes, and a mouth arc, are drawn with randomized parameters for stroke width, eye radius, and mouth size. The mouth uses D3’s `arc` function to generate a path, while the layout is positioned via SVG transformations within a `FaceContainer` that sets the canvas dimensions.
