The Margin Convention Outtake

This example renders a title-only SVG frame that sets up margins and loads a CSV of country death counts, but the visualization itself never draws. The code imports d3.csv, d3.select, d3.scaleBand, and d3.scaleLinear, yet computes only a maximum value and logs it to the console. The bar chart is absent, leaving a blank 960×500 canvas with no axes, bars, or labels. It critiques the convention of margin setup by showing the setup without any resulting graphic.

Let's make a face with D3.js!

This example constructs a smiley face out of SVG shapes and animates its eyebrows. Using D3.js v5, the code selects the SVG canvas, appends groups and primitive shapes like circles, rectangles, and an arc-based mouth, and positions them with transform attributes. The eyebrows are rectangles that use chained `transition` calls to move up and down over 2-second intervals. This demonstrates fundamental DOM manipulation and basic animation, where the underlying data is the hardcoded positional values and dimensions for each facial feature.
