Assignment 6

This animated scatter plot, titled "Rules of Thumb," visualizes vehicle characteristics across different generations. It shows how the relationship between Horsepower and Torque_lb_ft evolves over time, with point size encoding MPG and color distinguishing engine Layout. The animation transitions between frames defined by the Generation column, revealing trends in automotive performance. Data is loaded from a CSV file using `d3.csv` and rendered as SVG. The visualization uses `d3.scaleLinear` for axes, `d3.scaleSqrt` for size, `d3.scaleOrdinal` with `d3.schemeTableau10` for color, and a play/pause button controls the frame progression, with a tooltip appearing after a 2-second delay.

HTML Starter

This HTML starter demonstrates the use of D3 v7 to build an SVG scatterplot with axes and summary statistics. It loads a CSV from a GitHub gist and maps quantitative columns like Horsepower, Torque, and MPG to x-position, y-position, and size, while a categorical Layout column drives color. The code uses `d3.csv`, `scaleLinear`, `scaleOrdinal`, `extent`, `mean`, and `median` APIs to process data and render marks.
