Customizing Axes

A horizontal bar chart displays the 2018 population estimates for the top 10 most populous countries from the UN World Population Prospects. The example shows customized axes, using `scaleBand` for countries and `scaleLinear` for population values in thousands. It formats tick labels with `d3.format` to abbreviate large numbers, replacing 'G' with 'B' for billions. Bars are rendered in SVG, with the bottom axis positioned inside the chart and the left axis drawn separately using `d3.axisLeft`.

Customizing Axes

This bar chart displays the population of the top 10 most populous countries, using 2018 estimates from the United Nations World Population Prospects. The visualization demonstrates customized D3 axes: the y-axis uses an `axisLeft` with a band scale for country names, while the x-axis uses `axisBottom` with a linear scale and a custom tick format that converts large numbers to abbreviations (e.g., G to B). The `d3.scaleBand` and `d3.scaleLinear` APIs handle positioning, and `d3.csv` loads the data. The SVG render uses `d3.select` and `d3.max` to compute the domain.

Making a Bar Chart

This example shows a horizontal bar chart ranking the populations of the world’s ten most populous countries, with bars ordered from China down to Mexico. The visualization uses D3 v5’s `csv` method to load data from a local CSV file, converting population values to absolute numbers before rendering. It builds scales with `scaleLinear` for the x-axis and `scaleBand` for the categorical y-axis, and draws the bars as SVG `rect` elements. Axes are generated using `axisLeft` and `axisBottom`, with the chart laid out inside a configured margin.

Making a Bar Chart

A bar chart displays population estimates for ten countries from a CSV file, with horizontal bars sorted by country name. D3 v5 loads the data via `csv`, scales it with `scaleLinear` and `scaleBand`, and renders SVG rectangles. Axes are generated using `axisLeft` and `axisBottom`. The chart is drawn inside an SVG element with margins applied through a group transform.

Making a Bar Chart

This example shows a horizontal bar chart of population by country, using CSV data for ten nations. The chart maps population values to bar widths via a linear scale and country names to rows via a band scale, rendering SVG rectangles. D3 v5 APIs—`csv`, `scaleLinear`, `scaleBand`, `axisLeft`, and `axisBottom`—handle data loading, scaling, and axis generation, with margins applied to an SVG canvas.

Making a Bar Chart

This example shows a horizontal bar chart of the ten most populous countries in 2017, with population values (in thousands) drawn from a local CSV file. The chart renders as SVG using D3 v5, where the x-axis scale is linear and the y-axis uses a band scale with left-aligned axis labels. The code explicitly constructs the visualization with `select`, `csv`, `scaleLinear`, `scaleBand`, and `axisLeft` from the D3 library, then maps each country’s population to the rectangle’s width and country name to its vertical position.

Making a Bar Chart

This example shows a horizontal bar chart of the ten most populous countries, with bar lengths proportional to each country's population. It uses D3 version 5 APIs including `select`, `csv`, `scaleLinear`, `max`, and `scaleBand` to load data from a CSV file, compute scales, and render SVG rectangles. The chart applies a linear scale to population values and a band scale to country names, with bars drawn inside an SVG element with fixed dimensions and a margin offset.

Let's make a face with D3.js!

A yellow SVG smiley face with black stroke is centered on a red background, drawn using D3.js v5 primitives like `circle`, `rect`, and `path`. Animate the face by applying a chained `transition().duration(2000)` to the eyebrows group, moving it vertically up and down. The mouth is formed with D3's `arc()` generator, specifying inner and outer radii and a start and end angle. The example demonstrates fundamental DOM selection and manipulation via `d3.select` and `svg.append`.

Let's make a face with D3.js

An interactive SVG face built with D3.js v5 demonstrates how to construct a playful character from basic geometric shapes. The example uses `d3.select` to target the empty `svg` element within the 960×500 viewport and dynamically appends circles, ellipses, and paths for the eyes, mouth, and head. The code imports a separate local module via ES6 `import` syntax to display a text message, showing modular code organization. Rendering relies on SVG attributes and D3’s data-join methods, though the static sketch does not include animation or user interaction.

Cars Report

This example demonstrates a minimal “Hello World” message rendered in large, styled text on a dark blue background. It shows how VizHub combines an HTML page with a JavaScript module and a CSS stylesheet to create a simple, readable output. The code uses the `textContent` property of the Document Object Model (DOM) to insert a string exported from an ES6 module, while the stylesheet imports the Ubuntu font from Google Fonts and applies it globally. The visualization serves as a basic template for structuring and styling a single-page web app.

Cars Report

This example demonstrates the basic functionality of VizHub by rendering a large “Hello VizHub!” message centered on a dark blue background. The page uses an ES6 module to export the message string, which is then imported and displayed via the DOM API. Styling comes from an external stylesheet that imports the Ubuntu font from Google Fonts, while the HTML structure provides a placeholder element for the text. The visualization serves as a minimal, self-contained template for showing how modules, styling, and scripting integrate within the VizHub environment.
