A gist transcript of the New York City Council’s hearing on algorithmic transparency bill 16-96 becomes a force-directed network graph. The visualization maps speakers, organizations, and policy topics as linked nodes, with clustering and spatial proximity conveying conversational relationships. It uses `d3.forceSimulation` and `d3.drag` to position and interact with the nodes, while a side panel displays the raw transcript text. The source data is the gist’s plain-text notes, parsed into a JSON structure of entities and their mentions.

Gist 9204169

A network diagram of the Gist 9204169 comment thread uses a force-directed layout via `d3.forceSimulation` to arrange nodes by user interaction. The graph renders comment relationships as links, with node colors and sizes encoding the original poster’s query and the city’s response about PDF/A archival formats. Data comes from the embedded `message.md` and `response.md` files, parsed into JSON. Hovering highlights connected nodes, while the visualization also uses `d3.geoPath` only for map context, though no geographic data appears. The example emphasizes how open-data requests and bureaucratic replies form a conversational structure.

Notes on Botmakers meetup

This visualization maps the conversational flow and technical stack of the NYC Botmakers meetup, derived from hand-written notes taken at Babycastles. It charts the connections between topics like chatbots, generative Twitter bots, visual recognition, and video bots, linking each to specific APIs and tools such as Dialogflow, Tracery.io, Glitch, Clarifai, and moviepy. The data source is an unstructured org-mode file, and the rendering uses a force-directed graph to show how presenters and their projects relate.

This visualization maps the reading list from Berkeley’s “Advanced Topics in Computer Systems” course into a network graph. It shows how individual papers, grouped by topic areas like file systems, transactions, and distributed storage, connect through shared themes and prerequisites. The layout uses d3.forceSimulation to position nodes, with color coding for topics and text labels for paper titles. The data comes directly from the structured Markdown list in Papers.md, parsed to extract hierarchical groupings and links between entries.

Gist 11145951

This visualization uses a force-directed simulation with D3’s `d3.forceSimulation` to arrange a network of linked nodes. The code loads external data (likely from a JSON or CSV file) and renders the graph as an interactive SVG, with node positions updated continuously through the simulation’s tick events. Links are drawn as simple lines, while nodes appear as colored circles, and the layout responds to mouse interactions for dragging. The example also includes a footer with social media icons, but the core graphic focuses on the dynamic network structure.

Gist 1328c48d7adc70f7a23d190cdf877f7d

This visualization uses D3.js to render a dynamic network graph of interconnected nodes and links. The code employs `d3.forceSimulation` with forces such as charge, link, and centering to position the nodes, while links and nodes are drawn using SVG lines and circles. The simulation updates positions on each tick, and the graph responds to drag and zoom interactions. Node sizes and link thicknesses are determined by degree and connection counts, offering a clear view of the network’s structure and clustering.

Gist dbec8851e522a7b2af374affa4f5c152

This example shows a force-directed network diagram of interconnected nodes, colored and sized to reveal clustering and degree differences. The visualization uses D3.js’s `d3.forceSimulation` with collision, link, and many-body forces to position the nodes, while `d3.drag` enables user interaction. Data is loaded from a JSON file containing node and link arrays. The rendering uses SVG circles and lines, with node fill colors determined by a categorical scale, and the simulation updates positions each tick. No additional analysis or animation beyond the basic force layout is present.

Gist db32a113f546aa03b43c0e1f84f80d28

The visualization shows a force-directed network graph of GitHub gist data, with nodes representing individual gists and links showing relationships between them. It uses d3.forceSimulation to compute the layout, with node size encoding gist size and color indicating file type or language. The rendering relies on SVG elements updated per tick via the simulation’s tick event. The code loads a static JSON file containing preprocessed gist metadata, and does not use canvas or WebGL. The visualization highlights clustering patterns among related gists, revealing emergent communities in the dataset.

This example visualizes a dynamic network of interconnected nodes, showing how forces shape a cluster’s layout over time. It uses a force-directed simulation via `d3.forceSimulation` with charge, link, and collision forces to position nodes, while links are drawn as straight lines. The rendering relies on SVG paths updated each tick, and the code includes a custom drag interaction using `d3.drag` to let viewers manually reposition nodes. The underlying data structure is a small JavaScript array of objects representing nodes and links, likely sourced from a static inline dataset. The visualization emphasizes real-time interaction rather than geographic or spatial data, focusing on emergent clustering behavior.
