This animated map of world history uses a Mercator projection to plot individual wars as colored circles, with each dot positioned by latitude and longitude and colored by conflict type (ancient, Napoleonic, colonial, or world wars). Circles fade in sequentially based on their year, creating a temporal narrative from 2600 BC onward. A side menu lets viewers filter the display by historical era, highlighting relevant conflicts while dimming others and adding tooltips with the war’s name and date. Built with D3 v3 and TopoJSON, the visualization layers war data over a world map, with interactive selection to explore different periods of military history.
