This dynamic D3.js v3 bar chart visualizes the historical fastest 50-meter freestyle swim times, ordered by world rank. Each bar represents an athlete, with the bar length encoding their time in seconds (x-axis) and the y-axis listing names by rank. The chart includes labeled axes, dashed gridlines, and a red tooltip that appears on hover to display the swimmer's world rank. Data labels show the exact time at the end of each bar, and nationality labels appear beside them, with a title indicating "seconds" along the horizontal axis.

Olympic Swimming Project

The Olympic Swimming Project visualization displays a bar chart showing the count of gold medal winners by country for the 100m freestyle event, with each bar colored distinctly. It processes Tokyo 2020 swimming data from a CSV file, filtering for rank 1 results, then aggregates and ranks the top ten countries. The chart is created using D3's scaleBand for the categorical x-axis, scaleLinear for the numeric y-axis, and scaleOrdinal for bar coloring, with axis labels added via the @curran/axis-labels library. The visualization highlights national dominance in a specific swimming discipline through an accessible, color-coded bar format.

Bar Chart Race

An animated bar chart race tracks total Summer Olympic medals earned by each country from 1896 onward. The visualization smoothly interpolates bar positions and widths between yearly data snapshots using D3 transitions applied to SVG rectangles, with a reusable join pattern for entering, updating, and exiting elements. A ticker and axis labels update along with the bars, driven by a data-driven keyframe generator. The chart also displays country name labels and animated value counts by leveraging D3’s `transition` and text-tweening, with a replay button to restart the sequence.

Fork of Version two: Top Athletes

This interactive bar chart displays the top 40 athletes by medal count, with each bar representing an athlete and its length indicating the number of medals won. Hovering over a bar reveals a tooltip showing the athlete’s full name, medal type, event, and year. Built with the Vega-Lite API, the visualization loads Olympic Games data from a local CSV file via `d3.csv`, and uses `vl.markBar()` to encode the categorical athlete names on the y-axis and the aggregated medal count on the x-axis. The chart also uses `vl.tooltip()` for detail-on-demand and custom axis styling from a shared config object.

Fork of BAR CHART

This horizontal bar chart shows the top ten athletes by popularity score, with rounded bars colored on a teal gradient to rank them from most to least popular. Exact popularity values appear beside each bar, while a light striped background and gridlines aid comparison. The visualization loads a CSV dataset from a GitHub gist and sorts it with d3.descending before slicing the top ten records. It uses d3.csv, d3.autoType, d3.scaleLinear and d3.scaleBand, and renders axes and labels via d3.axisBottom, d3.axisLeft, and SVG text elements.
