Rotating Transverse

Two animated map projections rotate in sync on a single canvas: a transverse equirectangular (Cassini) projection on the left and a transverse Mercator on the right. Each frame, `d3.geo.equirectangular` and `d3.geo.mercator` recompute their rotation via `d3.timer`, while `d3.geo.path` renders land from TopoJSON world-110m data and a graticule. The canvas context is manually rotated by 90 degrees to align the transverse orientation.

D3 - Maps

A rotating orthographic globe displays world landmasses as stroked vector outlines on a Canvas element. D3’s `d3.geoOrthographic` projection and `d3.geoPath` render both the geographic features and a graticule, with the rotation updated by `projection.rotate` inside a `setInterval` loop. The geographic data comes from a remote TopoJSON-like GeoJSON file, while the animation runs on a 960×800 canvas.

D3 map

A world map rendered in SVG plots photographs from the Network of Digital Heritage (NDE) SPARQL endpoint as points on a natural Earth projection. The D3 visualization uses `d3.geoPath` and TopoJSON to draw country boundaries from the world-atlas dataset, while a second data layer queries the SPARQL API for photo metadata including latitude, longitude, and image URLs. The code attempts to overlay images as SVG patterns, though the final placement logic is commented out.

Satellite

This visualization shows a rotating globe with a graticule and sphere outline from the perspective of a satellite orbiting Earth. The animation continuously adjusts the camera tilt and rotation, creating a dynamic view of the planet’s surface. It uses the D3.js graphics pipeline with `d3.geo.satellite` for projection, `d3.geo.clipCircle` for visibility clipping, and the Canvas API for rendering. The data source is a graticule and sphere generated on the fly, with real-time animation driven by a timer and elapsed time.

Satellite Projection Hebrides

A satellite projection of the Hebrides islands displays land, rivers, and lakes in muted greens and blues, rotating slowly to simulate an orbital view. The map redraws its geographic features as the mouse moves, adjusting latitude and longitude to follow the cursor. Built with D3.js and the d3-geo-projection library, it uses `d3.geoSatellite`, `d3.geoPath`, and TopoJSON data for vectors. The visualization updates paths dynamically, rendering SVG shapes with animation when idle.

The visualization includes a graticule layer and a white-filled sphere background.
