A force-directed bubble chart maps every video game publisher to a circle scaled by its number of titles, with each bubble colored by publisher and labeled by name. Clicking a publisher zoomes into its timeline, revealing individual game titles as small rectangles arranged by release year and platform. The visualization is built with React, D3’s `d3.layout.pack` and `d3.behavior.zoom`, and renders SVG with animated transitions. Data comes from a JSON file listing games, publishers, platforms, and years.

All of the Video Games

This interactive visualization maps the landscape of video games by company, using a zoomable bubble layout to represent each developer or publisher. Clicking a bubble zooms in to reveal that company's individual game titles, positioned along a timeline axis and colored by platform, while hovering reveals full names. Built with D3.js version 3.5, it uses the `d3.layout.pack` bubble layout, `d3.behavior.zoom` for pan and zoom interactions, and SVG for rendering animated transitions between company and game views. The data comes from a JSON file listing games, their platforms, and release years, showing the breadth of the industry from the 1980s to the 2010s.

A Bar Chart(Publisher)

This bar chart displays the sales of video games by publisher, allowing users to select among global, EU, JP, NA, and other regional sales data from a dropdown menu. The chart uses D3 v5 scales and axes to map publisher names along the x-axis and sales values on the y-axis, with each publisher represented as a rectangular mark. Interactive elements include the dropdown for changing the sales metric and tooltips revealing exact values. The underlying data is loaded from a CSV file hosted on GitHub, processed with D3’s `csv` function, and the entire visualization is built using React components and SVG rendering.

Most Popular Video Game Publisher

This horizontal bar chart shows the top 10 video game publishers by total historical global sales in millions. The chart uses React to render SVG elements, with D3 v5’s `scaleBand` for the categorical y-axis and `scaleLinear` for the quantitative x-axis. Data is aggregated from the Video Game Sales CSV using `d3.nest` and `d3.sum` on the `Global_Sales` field, then sorted and sliced. Axes and rectangular marks are custom React components, with a tooltip provided by SVG `<title>` elements.

Interactive Color Legend for game publishers

A scatter plot maps global video game sales against release year, with each point colored by publisher. An interactive color legend on the right highlights a selected publisher by dimming all other points, while the legend itself fades in sync. Built with React and D3 v5, it uses SVG circles for marks, `scaleOrdinal` for color mapping, and a custom `ColorLegend` component with mouse events to toggle the hover state. Data comes from a CSV of videogame sales loaded via `d3.csv`.

Fork of A Bar Chart(Publisher)

This interactive bar chart displays global video game sales by publisher, with a dropdown menu to switch between sales regions (Global, EU, JP, NA, Other). The React-based visualization uses D3 v5 scales and axes (scaleBand, scaleLinear) to render SVG rectangles, with tooltips via SVG `<title>` elements. Data originates from Kaggle’s video game sales dataset, loaded as CSV using D3’s `csv` parser.

scatter-plot

This scatter plot visualizes video game sales, comparing NA_Sales on the x-axis against EU_Sales on the y-axis, with each circle’s color representing a different game publisher or developer. The visualization uses d3.csv to load the dataset, d3.scaleLinear to map data values to pixel coordinates, and d3.axisLeft and d3.axisBottom to render the axes. Circles are drawn as SVG elements within a React framework, with their fill color determined by a switch statement that assigns distinct colors to known studios and a default brown for others. The chart also includes axis labels for the variables plotted.

Game Publisher Donut Chart

This donut chart visualizes the market share of game publishers among the top 500 best-selling video games, using data from Kaggle's Video Game Sales with Ratings dataset. Rendered with D3 v4 in SVG, the chart aggregates global sales by publisher and encodes each publisher's share as an arc segment. The visualization is built with blockbuilder.org and is based on Curran Kelleher’s block, providing an at-a-glance comparison of publisher dominance in the gaming industry.

Video Game Publishers by Genre

This visualization uses small multiples of scatterplots to compare the mean and variance of global sales for video game publishers across genres. Each dot represents a publisher, with outliers filtered using a z-score cutoff on variance to reveal clearer patterns. Built with D3 v6 and Observable Plot, it loads the Video Game Sales Dataset via `d3.csv` and applies `d3.rollup` to aggregate sales data. Hovering reveals the publisher name, though clusters can make identification difficult.
