Bullet Charts
This bullet chart example displays multiple small multiples, each comparing a measure (like “PFI” or “PFA”) against qualitative ranges and a marker, as recommended by Stephen Few. The visualization uses D3 v3 to render SVG rects and lines for ranges, measures, and markers. A button triggers a one-second transition that randomizes the data values, animating the x-scales and tick labels via `d3.scale.linear` and the `.transition().duration()` API. Data loads from a local JSON file (`bullets.json`), and the layout follows the classic bullet chart design with an explanatory title and subtitle per row.
AI-generated descriptionDesigned by Stephen Few, a bullet chart “provides a rich display of data in a small space.” A variation on a bar chart, bullet charts compare a given quantitative measure (such as profit or revenue) against qualitative ranges (e.g., poor, satisfactory, good) and related markers (e.g., the same measure a year ago). Layout inspired by Stephen Few. Implementation based on work by Clint Ivy, Jamie Love of N-Squared Software and Jason Davies. The "update" button randomizes the values slightly to demonstrate transitions.
