Famine Forecasting Framework
This sunburst visualization maps a famine forecasting framework, hierarchically organizing food-security indicators. The root represents famine, branching into categories such as Food Access, Food Availability, and Geography, with further subcategories like Agriculture, Economics, and Transportation. Each leaf arc is sized by its value, using a radial layout where the center is the root and outer rings are deeper hierarchy levels. The visualization is color-coded by top-level category and supports interactive exploration: clicking an arc zooms in to that segment, while clicking the center circle zooms back out. The SVG-based animation and hover interactions make the large dataset of indicators easy to navigate and compare.

A sunburst is similar to a treemap, except it uses a radial layout. The root node of the tree is at the center, with leaves on the circumference. The area (or angle, depending on implementation) of each arc corresponds to its value.
