This visualization displays two identical bar charts showing the frequency of letters in the English language, using data loaded from a TSV file. Each chart encodes the 26 letters along the x-axis using an ordinal band scale and their frequencies (ranging from 0 to ~0.127) along the y-axis using a linear scale. The bars are rendered as SVG rectangles with a steelblue fill, and each chart includes labeled axes with tick marks formatted as percentages. The visualization employs D3 v4 features including d3-dsv for parsing tab-separated values, d3-scale for position encoding, d3-array for data processing, and d3-axis for axes. The two identical charts are displayed side-by-side to demonstrate the same data with slightly different axis class naming conventions, likely for instructional purposes in a data visualization course assignment.

S18 - HW 3 - Bar Chart

This example shows two identical bar charts displaying the frequency of letters in the English language, based on data from a TSV file. The charts use D3 v4 to render SVG elements, with d3-dsv for parsing the tab-separated values, d3-scale for position encodings, and d3-axis for axes. Each chart applies conventional margins and uses a band scale for the x-axis (letters) and a linear scale for the y-axis (frequencies), with bars colored steelblue. The first chart includes a y-axis label, while the second chart omits it, illustrating a minor variation in annotation. The visualization demonstrates standard D3 bar chart construction with axes, scales, and data binding.

S18 - HW 3 - Bar Chart

This example displays two bar charts visualizing the frequency of letters in the English language, based on a TSV dataset. Built with D3 v4 and rendered as SVG, each chart uses d3.scaleBand for the x-axis (letters) and d3.scaleLinear for the y-axis (frequencies). The first chart applies a steelblue fill to the bars, while the second chart is identical in structure and data. The visualization incorporates conventional margins, axes with formatted ticks, and labels, following the classic D3 bar chart pattern. The code demonstrates key D3 features including d3-dsv for parsing tab-separated values, d3-scale for position encodings, d3-array for data processing, and d3-axis for rendering axes.

S18 - HW 3 - Bar Chart

This bar chart visualizes the frequency of letters in the English language using a TSV dataset. The visualization is rendered as two separate SVG bar charts (Bar Chart 1 and Bar Chart 2), each displaying the same data with letters on the x-axis and their corresponding frequencies on the y-axis. The charts use D3 v4 features including d3-dsv for parsing tab-separated values, d3-scale for position encodings (band scale for the x-axis and linear scale for the y-axis), d3-axis for axes, and d3-format for number formatting. Each chart applies conventional margins, uses a steelblue fill for the bars, and includes labeled axes with frequency values formatted as percentages. The two charts are structurally identical but are implemented in separate SVG elements to demonstrate the construction process.

S18 - HW 3 - Bar Chart

This visualization presents two bar charts displaying the frequency of letters in the English language, derived from a TSV file. Each chart uses thick line marks (rectangles) with length and position as the primary channels, mapping letter categories to the x-axis and quantitative frequency values to the y-axis. The first chart applies an ordinal color scale with 26 distinct hues, one for each letter, while the second chart uses a linear color scale to encode frequency through color saturation, ranging from dark for the most frequent letter (E) to light for the least frequent (Z). Both charts are rendered as SVGs using D3 v4, with axes, labels, and margins configured for clear comparison of letter frequency distributions.

S18 - HW 3 - Bar Chart

This bar chart visualizes the frequency of letter usage in the English language using a vertical bar for each of the 26 letters. The chart uses a line mark (rectangles) with vertical spatial position encoding frequency values and horizontal position encoding letters, as an ordered data type. It employs d3-dsv to parse the tab-separated data, d3-scale for position encodings, and d3-axis for axes. The first chart uses a categorical color scheme, while the second chart applies a sequential blue color scale where saturation encodes frequency, with the most frequent letter (E) shown in the highest intensity. Both charts use conventional margins, d3-scaleBand for the x-axis, and d3-scaleLinear for the y-axis, with axes labeled accordingly. </script> </body> </html> S18 - HW 3 - Bar Chart This visualization presents two bar charts displaying the frequency of letter usage in the English language, based on a TSV dataset. The charts use vertical and horizontal spatial positions as primary channels: the y-axis encodes letter frequency, while the x-axis represents each letter. The first chart uses a categorical color palette to distinguish bars, while the second chart applies a sequential color scale (interpolateBlues), where the intensity of the blue hue corresponds to the frequency—higher frequency letters like "E" appear with the highest intensity, and lower frequency letters like "Z" appear with the lowest. Both charts employ D3 v4 with SVG rendering, including axes, labels, and margins, and are designed to compare the distribution of letter frequencies in English. The data is ordered by frequency.

S18 - HW 3 - Bar Chart

Two bar charts display the frequency of letters in English, with the first using a categorical color scale and the second using a color-saturation scale tied to frequency bins. The charts load tab-separated data with `d3.tsv`, map letter categories to `d3.scaleBand` positions and frequency values to `d3.scaleLinear`, and render SVG rectangles. Axes are generated with `d3.axisBottom` and `d3.axisLeft`, while bar colors are set via conditional logic in the `fill` attribute, using named CSS colors and hex codes.

S18 - HW 3 - Bar Chart

This bar chart visualizes the frequency of letter usage in English, with each letter represented as a bar. The chart uses a line mark with vertical spatial position encoding the quantitative frequency attribute and horizontal spatial position encoding the categorical letter attribute. The top chart applies an ordinal color scale (d3.schemeCategory20) to map color hue to each letter, though this adds no meaningful grouping. The bottom chart uses color saturation to encode frequency, with darker shades indicating higher usage. Data is loaded from a TSV file and rendered as SVG using D3 v4. The chart includes axes, labels, and a legend, with the saturation-based encoding using a multiplier to enhance perceptual differences in the frequency values.

Bar Chart

This bar chart displays the frequency of each letter in the English language, with letters arranged along the x-axis and their percentage frequencies on the y-axis. The data loads from a TSV file and is rendered as violet bars that transition with a bounce ease over three seconds on hover. Built with D3.js, the visualization uses `d3.tsv` to parse data, `d3.scale.ordinal` for the x-position, `d3.scale.linear` for the y-position, `d3.svg.axis` for axes, and `d3.format` for percentage ticks.
