This visualization compares ESPN's expert rankings against the aggregated "users' picks" for the top 50 NFL fantasy football players. Each player is represented by a line connecting their position on the left (ESPN Pick) to their position on the right (Users' Pick), with players ordered by their median pick. The graphic highlights standout deviations, like Patrick Mahomes, whose ESPN rank of 43 contrasts sharply with his user median, making his line prominently darker and thicker. The code uses D3.js (`d3.select`, `c.svg.appendMany`) to render SVG paths and text, drawing data from a TSV file containing each player's average, median, and expert pick positions.

NFL Scatter Plot

This scatter plot visualizes NFL player performance by plotting fantasy points against targets for the 2021 season, with player positions (RB, WR, QB) color-coded. The visualization uses D3.js v7 APIs such as `scaleLinear`, `axisLeft`, and `axisBottom` to create the axes and render SVG circles. Data is loaded asynchronously from a CSV hosted on GitHub using the `csv` method, and the drop-down menus for axis selection are present but not yet wired to update the chart.

Scatter Plot with Menus

This interactive scatter plot visualizes fantasy football team efficiencies by comparing actual versus optimal weekly performance across different positions. A dropdown menu lets users filter data by team or position, with each team represented as a colored circle. The visualization uses D3.js v5 with SVG rendering, employing d3.scaleLinear for axes and d3.csv to load the dataset. Hover interaction is not implemented, but the menu-driven filtering updates the scatter plot dynamically.

This visualization shows a simulated ranking of soccer players based on their fantasy-league value, where each player’s node weight reflects a blend of difficulty, form, and chance of playing. A force-directed layout using d3.forceSimulation positions the labeled nodes, while their size and color encode the computed weight. The chart draws directly from the CSV data in out_weights.csv, with player names as text labels. The code relies on D3’s selection and data-binding methods to bind the tabular rows to circle and text elements, and it uses the simulation’s tick event to update positions dynamically, though no explicit interaction or animation beyond the layout is implemented.

Gist 57ca507364e5d0807c4fcbd14f2a6afd

This visualization presents a recommended fantasy football starting lineup and substitution strategy as a network diagram, using data from a JSON file. It shows the eleven starting players and four substitutes, with the captain highlighted, and a single recommended change from "Botman" to "Jonny" that reshapes the team. The code employs D3.js’s `d3.forceSimulation` to position player nodes and their connections, while player names are rendered as text labels, likely using SVG elements. The layout visually encodes the starting team’s structure and the tactical adjustment, though it does not animate the change; it merely states the recommendation.

EDAV Project

This interactive scatter plot from a Fantasy Premier League dataset shows player cost against total points per season, with color and size highlighting for defenders, midfielders, or forwards. It uses D3.js (v7) with SVG and animation to render the chart. Users can filter by position via radio buttons, which recalculates a linear best-fit line for the selected group, and hover over points to reveal player details. The data is loaded via `d3.csv` from a remote GitHub source.

Gist 39c7e6c0a5bdba5e4a29bcfc73c16c30

This visualization displays the current lineup of a Fantasy Premier League team, encoding each player’s form, cost, and position through a custom force-directed layout. It shows how player attributes relate to team selection and playing chances, with node size or color mapping to form and cost. The code uses d3.forceSimulation to position nodes, d3.forceLink for connections, and SVG paths with d3.arc for circular representations. Data comes from the current_team.csv file, which includes player names, now_cost, form, and chance_of_playing_this_round values. The rendering relies on D3’s scale functions and axis components to encode quantitative variables, while missing chance values are left blank.

This visualization uses a force-directed simulation to lay out a network of fantasy football players, with each node’s size mapped to a player’s weight attribute from the starters.csv file. The chart reveals the relative heft of players like Wan-Bissaka and Son, contrasting them with lighter picks such as Maupay. Built with D3’s `d3.forceSimulation`, it applies collision and charge forces to space nodes, while `d3.drag` enables interactive repositioning. Node size is encoded via `d3.scaleSqrt`, and the canvas is redrawn each tick, making the weight distribution immediately apparent.

Week 10 - In Class Assignment

This interactive scatterplot displays college football quarterback statistics from the 2014 season. Using two dropdown menus, users can select which offensive attribute is plotted on the x and y axes, including passing yards, rushing touchdowns, and completion percentage. The visualization employs the D3.js version 3 library to render SVG elements, animating transitions between selections. Dots are color-coded by conference group (Big Five, Group of Five, or Independent), with mouseover tooltips revealing player names. The data originates from a CSV file loaded with `d3.csv`.
