This example from a Mozfest D3.js workshop demonstrates a simple bar chart of 100 randomly generated values. Each value is an integer between 0 and 29, represented as a vertical rectangle. The SVG bars are positioned along the x-axis with equal spacing and their heights correspond directly to the random data values. The visualization uses a fixed width of 800 pixels and height of 100 pixels, with bars drawn from the bottom of the chart upward. The code iterates through the dataset, assigning each rectangle a width based on the total number of items and a height matching the random value. The rendering is done entirely in SVG via D3's data join pattern, creating a basic bar chart that serves as an introductory example for the Mozfest D3.js workshop.

Sample Bar Chart

This example displays a randomized dataset of 25 numeric values as a series of vertical bars, with each bar’s height proportional to its corresponding data point. The bars are rendered as inline-block HTML `div` elements styled with teal backgrounds and fixed widths. The sample uses D3 v7’s data join pattern—`d3.select().data().enter().append()`—to bind the data and generate the bars, while `Math.random()` produces the source values. The visualization demonstrates a basic bar chart without axes or scales, relying on a simple pixel-to-value mapping.

67. D3 Randomized Data

A bar chart displays 20 vertical bars whose heights and blue color intensities correspond to values in a static array. Clicking the text prompt replaces the dataset with 20 new random integers between 0 and 24, then animates the bars and their value labels using `transition` with `delay` and `duration`. The chart uses `d3.scaleBand` for the x-axis and `d3.scaleLinear` for the y-axis, with SVG `rect` and `text` elements. Data is updated via a click handler on a paragraph element.

D3: Drawing a Bar Chart

This example demonstrates a basic bar chart built with D3 v7 in an SVG container, visualizing an array of 20 numeric values. The bars grow downward from the top of a 500×100 pixel canvas, with each bar’s height proportional to its data value multiplied by 4, and its fill color transitioning from dark to lighter blue based on the data. The chart also overlays each bar with white, 11px sans-serif text labels showing the exact data values, centered horizontally within each bar. The code uses `d3.select` to append SVG elements and the data-join pattern with `.enter()` to create rectangles and text nodes.

Creating SVG Bar Chart

This example demonstrates a simple SVG bar chart built with D3 version 6. It generates a random dataset of ten values using `d3.range` and `Math.random`, then renders each value as a `rect` element, with its height and vertical position proportional to the data. The chart also labels each bar with a `text` element showing its value. The code uses D3’s `select`, `selectAll`, `data`, and `enter` methods to bind data and create the SVG elements, with bars colored using an RGB fill based on each value.

Untitled

This example shows a bar chart with ten bars, each representing a randomly generated value. The chart is rendered as an SVG graphic, with bars drawn in steel blue. The code generates the data internally using a loop and `Math.random`. It uses D3.js v4 APIs including `d3.scaleBand` for the x-axis, `d3.scaleLinear` for the y-axis, and `d3.axisBottom` and `d3.axisLeft` to create the axes. The visualization is built within a React starter template, though the core logic is a simple D3 script.

Fork of HTML Starter

This example displays a static bar chart of 100 randomly generated quantitative data points, visualizing each item’s value as a vertical steelblue rectangle. It uses D3 v7 with an SVG rendering approach, employing `d3.scaleBand` for the categorical x-axis, `d3.scaleLinear` for the y-axis, and `d3.axisBottom` and `d3.axisLeft` for tick marks. The code generates the dataset in-browser using `Math.random()`, applies rotated labels to sparse x-axis ticks, and includes chart and axis titles for context.

D3: Basic Barchart

This example shows a basic bar chart of 20 numeric values rendered as SVG rectangles, with each bar labeled by its value in white text. The chart uses D3 v5 scales, including a `scaleBand` for the x-axis positioning and a `scaleLinear` for the y-axis height calculation. Data is bound via `selectAll("rect").data()`, with bars and text labels positioned using the scales. The code loads D3 from UNPKG and demonstrates simple SVG generation without axes or interactivity.

51. D3 Bar Chart

This is a simple D3.js bar chart that visualizes a numeric dataset of 20 values, displaying each value as a rectangle scaled in height and colored in varying shades of blue. The chart uses an SVG element sized 500 by 100 pixels, with rectangles positioned horizontally and vertically scaled by a factor of four. Each bar is labeled with its corresponding number, rendered in white text. The example demonstrates basic D3 v4.5.0 APIs including `d3.select`, `svg.selectAll`, `.data()`, `.enter()`, and `.attr()`, with a static dataset defined as an array of integers.
