Juxtaposr lets users compare character preferences from the *Walking Dead* and *FRIENDS* by drag-and-dropping cast members into ranked slots. The React-based interface relies on Cheerio web scrapers to populate character lists, served through an IBM Loopback RESTful API connected to a MySQL database. A "smart backend" persists each user’s ranking and exposes those preferences to other visitors, enabling side-by-side viewing of how different people order the same characters. The interaction logic moves from React to Vanilla JS for the drag-and-drop mechanics.

This interactive timeline charts a developer’s evolving tech stack from 2014 to 2017, with planned tools for the future. It uses a force-directed graph via `d3.forceSimulation` to position nodes representing languages, frameworks, and APIs, while edges connect each technology to the year it was adopted. The data comes from a Markdown file listing monthly entries, rendered as a React component that parses the file into nodes and links. Hovering reveals tool names, and the graph’s layout adapts dynamically to the growing list of skills.

Gist of a stolen gist

This example visualizes the structure of a “stolen gist” — a curated piracy resource list — as an interactive hierarchical map. It shows the document’s nested sections and subsections as collapsible, color-coded nodes, revealing the organization of topics like torrenting, Usenet, and streaming. Built with React, it uses a custom recursive rendering of the markdown headings, with d3.forceSimulation to position nodes and CSS transitions for expand/collapse animations, sourced directly from the raw gist file.

This interactive typing game tracks a player’s progress through a character-by-character comparison of their input against a target phrase. The interface uses React state management (`useState`) to store the snippet, the user’s typed text, and a game-state object that records victory status and start/end timestamps. The initial game state is defined as a constant with `victory: false` and null time fields, which are later updated as the game runs. The visualization does not include any graphical charting library; instead, it relies purely on React’s rendering and state logic to display the comparison and status.

A React component builds an interactive curriculum vitae where a force-directed graph represents professional experience and skills. Using d3.forceSimulation, the layout positions connected nodes for each role, skill, and technology, with links showing relationships between them. The visualization reads from embedded CV data, allowing users to explore career history and technical expertise through an animated, zoomable network.

This visualization presents a narrative chart that maps character appearances and introductions across scenes in a story. Using D3.js’s narrative layout, it positions scenes horizontally and characters vertically, encoding each character’s presence as small black ellipses within scene clusters. The code employs mxGraph to render the final graph, with curved edges connecting characters across scenes. Appearance vertices are placed at precise scene coordinates, while introduction labels sit beside the timeline, with links drawn between these points. The underlying data wrangling occurs in a dedicated function that groups scene characters by ID, and the graph is exported as XML via mxCodec.

A small React application renders a force-directed graph of interconnected nodes and edges. The visualization uses `d3.forceSimulation` to compute node positions and link forces, while the `ReactDOM.render` call mounts the component onto a DOM element. The graph displays circles for data points and lines for connections, with the simulation running continuously to update positions dynamically. The code relies on React’s component-based structure to manage the SVG elements and update them on each simulation tick.

This example is a data-art composition built from a personal list of recommended web design and programming books, rendered as an interactive force-directed graph. It visualizes the relationships between books, their authors, and their associated topics (like usability, web standards, JavaScript, Ruby, and Rails) using `d3.forceSimulation` for physics-based layout and dynamic node positioning. Each book title, URL, and annotation from the original text is embedded as textual nodes and links, with the graph’s structure and labels derived directly from the source gist’s content. The rendering approach uses SVG elements updated via D3’s data join, and while no explicit additional libraries are mentioned, the code relies on standard D3 v4+ APIs for simulation, drag behavior, and tick updates to show the clustered, interlinked reading list.

This example visualizes a weekly job application tracker, showing progress toward a goal of 20 applications with checkboxes, company names, and links to application portals. It highlights completed applications, including one rejected application (Chewse), and displays a mix of completed and pending items alongside a secondary misc. goal for preparing a React app with an external API. The visualization uses a simple list-based rendering approach within a React component, leveraging the framework’s state and JSX to manage and display checkbox states and task statuses.
