Film Flowers, Single Starter Code is a D3.js v4 SVG visualization that renders movie data as individual flower glyphs. Each flower represents a film, with petals drawn using SVG paths that are scaled and rotated based on the movie's metadata. The code defines four distinct petal shapes mapped to MPAA film ratings (G, PG, PG-13, R) and uses lodash for data manipulation. The visualization loads movie data from a JSON file and prepares scales for size and petal count, though the current iteration focuses on a single movie's petal construction. The SVG canvas is sized at 600 pixels wide and 20,000 pixels tall, suggesting the full design would display flowers vertically for each film in the dataset. This is starter code that sets up the petal path definitions, scales, and data loading, with the drawing logic left incomplete.

Film Flowers, Single Starter Code

This visualization shows a single movie's data rendered as an SVG flower, with each petal representing a different attribute. The starter code defines four petal path shapes and maps movie ratings (G, PG, PG-13, R) to different petal paths, while size and petal count scales are set up but not yet applied to the data. The example uses D3 v4 data-binding to append paths, and the current incomplete implementation leaves the flower undrawn, serving as a template for rendering one movie's statistics as a stylized bloom.

Film Flowers, Single Starter Code

This visualization renders a single film as a "flower" of SVG paths, where each petal’s shape, size, and count encode the movie’s MPAA rating, IMDb score, and vote count. The code maps the first movie’s rating to a petal scale, its votes to a petal count between 5 and 9, and its rating category (G, PG, PG-13, R) to one of four predefined petal path shapes. The flower is drawn by binding petal data and appending rotated, scaled `<path>` elements, all centered at a fixed point. Only one movie is displayed to demonstrate the data transformation and drawing pipeline before scaling to the full dataset. The SVG canvas is sized 600 by 20000 pixels, though only the initial flower is rendered in this starter example.

Film Flowers, Single Starter Code

This example shows a small starter version of the “Film Flowers” visualization, drawing the first movie from a JSON file as a flower-like glyph. The SVG is pre-sized to 600 by 600 pixels, with three movies per row on a taller canvas. The code uses D3 v4 scales and selections, plus lodash helpers, to bind movie data and generate a quantized number of petal paths. Each petal is positioned and rotated via SVG transform attributes, with the petal path selected by the movie’s rating.

Film Flowers, Single Starter Code

This example visualizes a single movie as a stylized flower, where each petal represents a unit of the film’s IMDb rating and its shape varies by the movie’s content rating (e.g., PG-13). The code uses D3 v4’s `scaleLinear` and `scaleQuantize` to map data values, and Lodash for data transformation, loading the movie from `movies.json`. It draws SVG paths with hardcoded petal shapes, using data-binding and enter-append to create petals, but only the first movie is processed and petals are not yet positioned or scaled.

Film Flowers, Single Scaled Starter

A D3.js visualization renders a single movie from a JSON dataset as a stylized flower. Each film is represented by a set of SVG petal paths, whose quantity corresponds to the movie's vote count and whose scale encodes its IMDB rating. The code uses `d3.scaleLinear` and `d3.scaleQuantize` to map these values, with petal shape determined by the film's rating category (G, PG, PG-13, R). The flower is drawn at a fixed position using SVG transformations and rainbow-colored fills.

Film Flowers, Full Starter Code

Film Flowers visualizes the ratings and popularity of movies as a grid of multicolored flower glyphs, one per film. Each flower’s size encodes the movie’s IMDB rating (via a linear scale), while the number of petals encodes the number of IMDB votes using a quantize scale. Petal shape is determined by the MPAA rating (G, PG, PG-13, R), and petal color is assigned using `d3.interpolateRainbow` based on petal position. The SVG is generated with D3 v4, with each flower transformed and scaled as a group, and petals rotated and blended with `mix-blend-mode: multiply`. The code loads movie data from a JSON file and uses lodash for data mapping.

Film Flowers, Single Starter

A single film flower visualizes one movie's metadata as a six-petaled SVG shape, with each petal drawn from a hard-coded path and rotated evenly around a central point. The code loads movie data from a local `movies.json` file, maps fields like rating, votes, and year, then uses the first movie's PG rating to select a petal path from a lookup table. Petals are rendered via D3 v4's data join and enter-append pattern, with transforms for translation and rotation, while Lodash handles array generation and mapping.

Film Flowers, Single Scaled Starter

A flower-like glyph represents a single movie from the IMDB dataset, with each petal encoding a movie attribute such as IMDB rating, vote count, year, and MPAA rating. The visualization renders the starter case of only the first movie, drawing its custom petal shapes as SVG paths. It uses D3 v4’s linear scale for size, a quantize scale for petal count, and a lookup table mapping ratings to petal geometries, with data binding and enter-append to draw the flower from the JSON source.
